Congratulations to our new CUPE Ontario President Yolanda McClean, and our new Secretary Treasurer of Dawn Bellerose!!!

We are making history today, folks!

Yolanda McClean is the first education worker and the first Black woman to be elected president of CUPE Ontario, which represents more than 300,000 members working in the public sector.

Dawn Bellerose is the first Indigenous woman to be elected as CUPE Ontario Secretary Treasurer!

Yolanda and Dawn are fierce advocates for the working class. They will stop at nothing to ensure that our rights are protected, not only as workers but as human beings.

Many thanks to everyone who ran in the elections. Your hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed. And, we look forward to working with you as well.

Great meeting with Michael Macpherson, Acting President of CUPE Local 2276, representing developmental service workers across Welland, Pelham, St. Catharines, Fort Erie, Port Colborne, and Wainfleet.

Developmental service workers play a vital role in helping people with developmental and intellectual disabilities live full and meaningful lives. Their work includes providing therapeutic support, coaching individuals in crises, assisting with medical needs, and helping manage finances.

I look forward to working together to raise awareness and build momentum for increased provincial investment in developmental services and in the workers who provide this support.

2000 union members attending the Canadian labour Congress from across the country took to the streets of Winnipeg in solidarity. Don’t underestimate the power of union solidarity. Sisters, brothers, comrades… We all stand united. We all stand together for not only a better workplace and better wages - but also standing against social injustices and anti-human rhetoric.
We have your back!

Women Rising: Strength, Voice, Leadership
Bold Women. Strong Voices. Real Change.
Friday, June 19, 2026 (5:00pm) to Sunday, June 21, 2026 (2:00pm).
Best Western, 2 North Service Rd, St. Catharines, ON L2N 4G9

Women Rising: Strength, Voice, Leadership is a weekend dedicated to empowering CUPE women and those who identify as such to step into their leadership, strengthen their voices, and build collective power. Grounded in the theme Bold Women. Strong Voices. Real Change., the weekend invites participants to explore what it means to lead with courage, resilience, and purpose within our union, the labour movement, and beyond. The Women Rising weekend creates space to connect with other women, build supportive relationships, and form lasting networks that participants can draw on long after the event ends.

The weekend includes Labour, Music, and Art: Activating Your Local, a creative and engaging workshop that explores labour activism through music, poetry, writing, and art. Complementing the themes of leadership and empowerment throughout the weekend, the workshop offers participants new ways to connect, communicate, and engage with other women in their workplaces and unions in meaningful and inclusive ways. Through CUPE’s Women Breaking Barriers course, attendees will examine the systemic challenges women face while gaining practical skills and confidence to navigate and overcome them. Learn about women’s oppression, politics and social change, all from a woman’s perspective. Explore the barriers, challenges and opportunities for women in the union. Discover your own personal leadership style and develop a plan for your personal next step.

The weekend will also feature inspiring guest speakers who will share their personal journeys, highlighting the obstacles they have faced and the strength it takes to continue showing up and doing this important work. Rooted in solidarity and shared experience, this gathering creates space to connect, learn, and rise together. When women lead with strength and voice, real change happens.

Registration fee is $250 per person for the weekend courses and speakers. The fee includes light fare and beverages Friday evening, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, non-alcoholic beverages for the Saturday Social (7pm-10pm), and continuous refreshment service and curated break offerings throughout the weekend.

Best Western Hotel rooms have been reserved for out-of-town attendees at a discounted rate of $279/night (plus tax).

We’ve had enough.
We‘ve seen Protests in 55 cities/towns across the province - Ford has got go. Ford is decimating us and our future by investing in himself and his business buddies.

He wants to keep the people of Ontario sick, he wants to keep us uneducated, and he wants us to stay silenced. It’s easier to dictate when people don’t know any better, or are too sick and too tired to fight back. He’s no better than Trump.

Ford is not for the people. And We’re not having it.
It was a rainy day, but many people stood together in protest of Ford’s cuts and threats.

Less Doug. More Wab.
It’s time to cut Doug Ford.
