Founded in 1988, OPIRG Brock works with students, service providers, community members, labour unions, artists and activists to build collaboration, connections, and communities of abundance. OPIRG Brock connects people to campus and community activism and services through our projects like the Niagara Free Store, the Anti-Racism Sponsorship Fund, the DisOrientation Guide to Niagara, and the Niagara Skills Network. Since being defunded in 2018, our ability to do this work and pay our staff comes from support from the communtiy in the form of memberships, donations, and volunteers. 📣Tuesday starts our free monthly online drop-in zoom space where you can work on your homework, housework, marking backlog, admin tasks, craft projects, & more!

These sessions happen on the third Tuesday each month from 12-2pm.

💌 Join us for our OPIRG Niagara Free Store Volunteer + Community Appreciation Social ✨ Saturday, October 10th, 2-5pm.

New, old, current, and prospective volunteers and community parnters are all welcome! to celebrating the folks who have given their time, energy, resources, and passion over the years to make our events & projects such a success!

We will meet at Montebello Park on the Ontario Street side near the gazebo.

There will be food + refreshments, games, and welcome folks to bring snacks and activities of their own to share!

This event is drop-in, but it is always helpful to know who will be coming out. If possible, please RSVP by sending us a DM, texting 365-855-2768, or email us at [email protected].

This is not a free store event and we will not be distributing items

📣 Tell everyone that there are 2 upcoming Niagara Free Store events starting this Saturday!

📍Saturday October 3 - 11am-3pm at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Queenston St., St. Catharines | Harvest Festival hosted by Queenston Neighbours

📍Thursday November 26 - 11am-1pm at 120 Queenston St., St. Catharines | HIV Awareness Week & Red Scarf Project hosted by Positive Living Niagara and Queenston Neighbours

📋 We are also in need of volunteers for free store events for transporting items or helping out at the events. If you can help out, please send us a DM and we will follow up with the details.

The Niagara Free Store is a mutual aid project of OPIRG Brock where we collect donations and redistribute them - at no cost - to the community. We have no physical space, so we host pop-up “stores” where we give out items with no questions asked! ⚠️ Due to a very generous influx of donations by community members, the Niagara Free Store team is currently pausing accepting item donations until further notice. We expect to make an updated annoucement about our ability to accept donations in mid-October.

📅 The next time we will have items set up for free to take will be at the Harvest Festival hosted by Queernston Neighbours. This event will take place on Saturday October 3, from 11am-3pm at St. Barnabas Church in St. Catharines.

📋 Board Members are volunteers who participate in a monthly meeting, some standard Board tasks (emails, transition, etc.), and take on a portfolio to help fulfil OPIRG’s mandate of connecting people to community + activism in Niagara.
