Why play lawn bowls?

It starts with a roll… and turns into belonging

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need the “right” gear.
You can borrow bowls at the club
You don’t need to be a certain age, ability, background, or skill level.

You just need to show up.

Because lawn bowls isn’t just about what happens on the green , it’s about what happens around it.

🤝 A place where everyone is welcome

Whether you’re new to the area, looking to meet people, getting back into sport, or just chasing something different, there’s a spot for you.

Clubs are built on people, not perfection.
And from your very first visit, you’re not an outsider, you’re part of it.

🟢 All abilities. All walks of life. One green

Lawn bowls is one of the few sports where everyone can genuinely play together.

Young or old. Competitive or social.
First-timer or lifelong player.

It’s a great game for juniors as no one is left on the sidelines.

There’s no “you don’t belong here” only “grab a bowl and join in.”

🌱 A safe, supportive environment to learn

Everyone remembers their first game, the nerves, the awkward deliveries, the bowls that go… anywhere but where you aimed 😅

That’s why clubs look after new players:

* People will help, not judge
* You’ll be guided, not overwhelmed
* Progress comes at your pace

And every small win gets celebrated

😂 It’s as much about laughter as it is about skill

Some of the best moments in bowls aren’t the perfect shots…they’re the unexpected ones.

The banter, the shared laughs, the “did that really just happen?” moments…
That’s what keeps people coming back.

🧠 Good for your mind, body, and routine

Getting outside, moving, focusing, connecting..
bowls ticks all the boxes.

It gives you:

* A reason to get out of the house
* A way to switch off from stress
* A healthy mix of activity and relaxation
* A way to socialise

🍻 Community doesn’t end at the last end

The game finishes… but the conversations don’t.

Stay for a drink, a chat, a laugh.
This is where friendships are built and stories are shared.

💚 It grows with you

You can keep it social, or you can get competitive.
You can play once a week or dive right in.

Check out local bowls clubs near you. Go on a social day or night, feel the vibe and see how you go!

WOBA 2026...

They say with age comes wisdom.
In our case… it also comes with a rule change or two.

As one of Canada’s longest-running lawn bowls tournaments, we’ve seen a lot over the years — wooden bowls, white belts, measuring with string (and maybe a bit of creative counting). What we haven’t seen much of… is change.

Well, that changes now.

First, we want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to our former sponsor MVP Sports (Dan and Brenda Milligan)Their support over the years helped keep this historic event thriving, competitive, and occasionally controversial in the best possible way. We are truly grateful for the partnership and the role they played in shaping the tournament’s legacy. 👏

As we turn the page, we are also making an important and exciting shift.

This event will no longer be a men’s-only tournament.

Beginning this year, the competition becomes an OPEN event.

Yes — open. As in open to everyone. As in, if you can roll a bowl, you’re welcome here.

The sport has evolved. Our community has evolved. And it’s time one of Canada’s oldest tournaments evolved with it.

We promise the same competitive spirit, the same questionable measuring debates, and the same post-game refreshments. What we’re adding is greater opportunity, inclusivity, and a field that better reflects the bowls community today.

Tradition matters.
But so does progress.

We’re excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to see who steps onto the green this year.

Game on. 🍁

Congratulations to the winning team of the Wednesday Niagara District 6 Senior Men's Lawn Bowling League for 2025 of Larry Wright, Doug Good, Larry Frizelle, and John Bush, representing one of the teams from the Niagara Falls Bowls Club. A great performance and a repeat win for this team.

This league has been running in the Niagara Region for over 40 years. Both Doug Good and John Bush have a stranglehold on this plaque, as they have been on the winning team at least 8 of the last 9 years, which is reflected in the close-up photo of the current league plaque.

The Banquet was held yesterday afternoon, October 8th, at the Glenridge LBC in St Catharines with all the prizes given out and an interesting discussion on plans for next season. The 11 teams in this Niagara Region league enjoyed a delicious roast beef covered in gravy on a bun, roasted potatoes, vegetables, and tasty dessert. A great job by the hosting club.
