Historic photographs are one of the largest collected items in our archives. In this Local HiSTORIES session, Join the Musée Héritage Museum’s very own Archivist, Vino Vipulanantharajah, who has curated a special presentation of maps and photos from the late 19th Century through to the 20th Century.

These archival pieces will show how our city has changed through the years, including the different buildings that existed and the transition over time from our initial land allocation as a River Lot system.

📅 Friday, June 12 from 2–3 pm

Congratulations to the Arts and Heritage Foundation’s Board Chair on a special recognition this week, at the 2026 Seniors and Elders Service Awards!

Ahmad Sanni was one of 13 people over the age of 55 who were honoured by City Council on June 3 (during Seniors Week) for their work to build a better St. Albert.

Ahmad was recognized for his volunteer work with our Foundation, and also with the Africans & African Descendants Friendship Club of St. Albert.

“All my life, I’ve always loved helping people,” he said at the event. “I like giving back to society.”

We appreciate all that Ahmad does for our Foundation!

The Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archaeology (IPIA) has returned to St. Albert’s Historic River Lots for another archaeological field school. This year, one of the sites examined is a historic outhouse used by the Métis families who lived on river lot

Join Dr. Kisha Supernant (IPIA Director and Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alberta) for a discussion about Métis archaeology, what has been unearthed during the 2026 field school and how toilets can inform our understanding of the past.

As part of National Indigenous History Month, we are pleased to bring back the very popular "Lii Buflo: A Métis Way of Life" panel displays to the St. Albert's Historic River Lots + Grain Elevators site, located at 4 Meadowview Drive!
(open Wednesdays to Sundays from 10 am–5 pm).

Lii Buflo is a traveling panel exhibition that showcases the historic ties and spiritual bond between the Métis people and the buffalo, as well as the bison conservation efforts of Elk Island National Park. The exhibition is thanks to a partnership between Elk Island National Park, St. Albert Métis District 11 and Arts and Heritage St. Albert.

And at the Musée Héritage Museum's Discovery Room all month, families can take in special interactive activities to learn more about the history of St. Albert's Indigenous history. The museum (inside St. Albert Place) is open Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10 am–5 pm.

Update! This week we will be joined by special guest April Bartlett, former photographer for the St. Albert Gazette. Tim’s session has been moved to June 19th.

Join us for our next FREE event in conjunction with our popular "First Draft of History: Newspapers in St. Albert" exhibition at the Musée Héritage Museum:

Stop by on Friday, June 5 from 1–4 and meet Tim Shoults, Vice-President of Great West Media and Publisher of the St. Albert Gazette, who will be on hand at the Musée Héritage Museum to answer any questions or comments from the community. News tips are welcome along with any questions about the St. Albert Gazette.

St. Albert has been home to several newspapers throughout our history offering their own unique perspectives.
