Eastern Habitat Joint Venture Since 1989, Eastern Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV) partners have been delivering wetland-habitat conservation projects in Eastern Canada’s six provinces.

Since 1989, Eastern Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV) partners have been delivering wetland-habitat conservation projects in Eastern Canada’s six provinces (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador). As part of the continental North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) – an international partnership with Canada, the United States and Mexico to conserve wetland and associated upland habitats for the benefit of waterfowl and other migratory birds – the EHJV is one of 24 joint ventures in Canada and the U.S., and dozens of regional partnerships in Mexico. It is North America’s largest joint venture at nearly three million square kilometres, encompasses one third of Canada’s land mass and sixty-five per cent of the Canadian population reside within its boundaries.

Great news for wetland conservation in Canada - 7 newly approved NAWCA-funded projects across the country! 🪺

Congratulations to all the partners with successful proposals this cycle across all the Joint Ventures in Canada, US, and Mexico. 🌎🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🇲🇽

The projects within the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture area will support wetland (and associated upland) conservation through acquisition, easements, restoration, enhancement, and management. These projects will benefit our EHJV Priority Waterfowl Species, and many of our non-waterfowl EHJV priority bird species as well.

Not to mention all the benefits for Species at Risk, other species that love wetlands, and the ecosystem benefits like cleaner water, carbon storage, and beautiful places for us all to enjoy.

Team work makes the (migratory bird conservation) dream work! 🦆
