Itโ€™s been more than a month of planning and hard work from our volunteers and their families. The Little Harbour & Area Community Hall is all set up and ready to serve you this Fatherโ€™s Day Sunday starting at 4 pm.

Weโ€™ll have plenty of lobster chowder to carry us right through until 6 pm, so come hungry. Let's fill the hall with laughter and good company.

We look forward to seeing you.

We got the call! Yes they are finally here. Today we made the long ride to Halifax to pick up our 14ft roof ladder, and the two 2 1/2 inch suction hoses, and some power bars for the radio rack in truck #142. We will be able to put our markings on the ladders and put them into service this week we hope. Only took 12 months to get the ladder in, not bad I guess, when the last one took 14 months.
We could not purchase these needed items with out the help from all of you who support the Nova Scotia Firefighters 50-50 draw. And we thank you. A lot of fire department struggle to make things come together and every little bit helps.
Again Thank You.

When wildfires happen, most buildings don't burn from direct flames. They ignite from embers.

That means the area right next to your house matters most. Here's where to start:
โœ… Clear leaves, needles, and debris within 1โ€“2 metres of your home
โœ… Clean out your gutters. Dry debris is ready-made tinder for a single ember
โœ… Move firewood at least 10 metres from your house
โœ… Replace combustible mulch near your foundation with gravel or stone

These steps are mostly free and take an afternoon. Your home's best protection starts well before any fire breaks out.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Check before you burn! What does this mean for you?

Before lighting a campfire, brush pile, burn barrel, chiminea or wood-burning fire bowl, check the Nova Scotia BurnSafe map after 2:00 pm daily during wildfire risk season.

Use the colour guide:
๐Ÿ”ด Red: Burning is not allowed
๐ŸŸก Yellow: Burning is only allowed 7:00 pm โ€“ 8:00 am
๐ŸŸข Green: Burning is allowed 2:00 pm โ€“ 8:00 am

When conditions become very dangerous, a fire ban may be proclaimed for one or more counties, or across the province. When a fire ban is in place, the map stays red, meaning open fires are not allowed anywhere provincial burn restrictions apply. Consumer fireworks are also not allowed during a fire ban.

๐Ÿ“ Visit novascotia.ca/burnsafe or scan the QR code in the infographic.
๐Ÿ“ž To report a wildfire or burn restriction violation, call 1-800-565-2224 or 911.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Please also follow all applicable municipal bylaws and policies.

Letโ€™s keep our homes, forests, neighbours and shorelines safe this summer. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒŠ
