Flashback Friday! Today, we flash back to just a few weeks ago when the Russell Lions welcomed Nicolas Sigounis to our club!

Lion Nicolas, who is originally from Montréal, has lived in the Russell area for a few years now. His friendly outgoing nature and his desire to make a difference in our community is a great fit!

He was inducted following a Helen Keller theme. That is to say, he was blindfolded during most of it to pay homage to Helen Keller who, in the Lions early beginnings, asked Lions to be “Knights of the Blind”. Ever since, Lions Clubs around the world have supported causes for the blind. The Helen Keller Induction Ceremony formalized his membership in the Club.

Our E-Waste Collection Day was an amazing success! So much so, that we needed a second truck! Thanks to the great response from our community, this will become a regular event… and we’ve already picked a date for this fall! Save up your e-waste for our next E-Waste Collection Day on Saturday, October 10, 2026 and we’ll gladly take it off your hands! A special thanks to Lion Jason Isaac (from the Metcalfe & District Lions Club) for taking this great group picture of just some of the hard working Russell Lions and e-waste folks who made this great event possible!

The Russell Lions Club would like to ask everyone who generously took a Christmas Angel ornament from either of our two Christmas Trees in Russell to please return your unwrapped gift by the extended deadline date of Wednesday, December 17th, to either Barry's Home Hardware or the Downtown IDA Pharmacy. We need to have all gifts collected no later than that date to allow us to prepare the gifts and deliver them in a timely fashion before Christmas. The need was great this year and we have no doubt that our community’s thoughtfulness and generosity will shine through again, as it always does. Thank you!

The Russell Lions Club Angel Trees are now up at Barry's Home Hardware and at the Downtown IDA Pharmacy in Russell. The deadline to support children in our community through the Angel Trees is December 12th, 2025. The demand increases every year and we need the generosity of our community to help out again this year.

Here’s how to adopt an Angel:

1) Take an angel ornament from the Angel Trees at Barry's Home Hardware (120 Craig Street) or at the Downtown IDA Pharmacy (1106 Concession Street).

2) Purchase gift(s) for that child (information is on the back of the angel ornament).

3) Don’t wrap your gifts! Bundle all of your new and unwrapped gifts and return them to the business where you received your Angel (Home Hardware or the Downtown IDA Pharmacy) before December 12th, 2025.

4) Don’t forget to include the Angel ornament you took from the tree with your gift! That way, we will know which child/children should receive the gift(s).

5) You may include gift wrap and wrapping accessories with your gifts, but please do not wrap your gifts.
