For decades, the Russell Lions Club have collected non-perishable food items and donations for our local Good Neighbours Foodbank. On Saturday, June 13th, with assistance from members of the Russell Township Fire Services, held our Annual Food Drive at Russell Foodland.

We received overwhelming support from the community, having collected 168 pre-packaged food donation bags and over $1500 in monetary donations. These donations will help support over 140 families in the Russell, Embrun, Marionville and Limoges areas that Good Neighbours Foodbank assist each month.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this event with your generous donations, your time, your energy or by simply sharing information about the Food Drive with your friends and neighbours.

Flashback Friday! Today, we flash back to just a few weeks ago when the Russell Lions welcomed Nicolas Sigounis to our club!

Lion Nicolas, who is originally from Montréal, has lived in the Russell area for a few years now. His friendly outgoing nature and his desire to make a difference in our community is a great fit!

He was inducted following a Helen Keller theme. That is to say, he was blindfolded during most of it to pay homage to Helen Keller who, in the Lions early beginnings, asked Lions to be “Knights of the Blind”. Ever since, Lions Clubs around the world have supported causes for the blind. The Helen Keller Induction Ceremony formalized his membership in the Club.
