The Royal Canadian Legion is thinking of those who died or were injured after an incident at CFB Wainwright, an army base in Alberta. We send deep condolences to all families whose loved ones have given their lives in service to Canada. We will remember them. We also extend our help and support to these families and to those of the others injured in this tragedy. Legion flags will fly at half-mast in Remembrance. The army base is one of Canada’s largest training sites.

We offer our condolences to the families of those who were lost in this tragic event. Our thoughts are also with the seriously injured and hope for their recovery.

It is with profound sadness that we confirm that a fire incident at CFB Wainwright on October 17 resulted in fatalities and injuries. Our immediate priority is supporting those affected and notifying next of kin.

The town crew has started to hang the veterans' banners today.

Our branch volunteers are already preparing for the Poppy Campaign by filling up our little poppy boxes and getting them ready for distibution. The banners will soon be placed on the hydro poles, when the final order comes in. We are also actively planning the Remembrance Day Services and remembrance displays for 2026.

Thank you to all our Legion volunteers and community members who help put this all together 🌺

Russell MB Legion Branch 159 just held a meeting on September 21st. We are looking forward to planning the Nov 11 services again this year. Our next meeting is Oct 19th at 4:30pm at the Russell Multiplex Legion Room.

We are a small committee, and would welcome new members to keep our Legion Branch going. We hold 4 meetings a year, so it is not a huge time commitment but it will help us keep our Branch open and vibrant.

Have you purchased a memorial banner in remembrance of your loved ones? Perhaps you may consider joining our branch. You can join as a member even if you never served yourself; you can be an associate member.

This year is the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion and all new members can join for free in 2026! You can join online, or through our branch. Message us for more details.

Your membership will help strengthen the Legion and our support for Veterans and our communities across the country.

In honour of the Legion’s 100th anniversary, anyone 18 years of age and older can join free for the 2026 membership year (January through December).
