This is heart breaking. We need to talk about something that is becoming incredibly difficult for us. There is so many unwanted cats.
Today, a box of kittens was left at ROAR with absolutely no warning. We also are seeing the posts about the kittens abandoned in town today as well.
We are so full. We have nowhere else to put animals. This has been one of the worst years we have experienced in a very long time, and we are doing everything we possibly can to keep up.
Just last week, we had a box of SIX kittens dropped off that had been found abandoned at the garbage dump. And now, just days later, we have another group left at our doors.
We are exhausted. Mentally, physically and emotionally.
ROAR does everything we can to help our community prevent situations like this. Every year, we offer a spay and neuter incentive to help make getting your cats fixed more accessible. This year, both local vet also offered discounted spay and neuter days.
We are doing everything we can to make sure people have access to affordable options to get their cats spayed and neutered. But there are still people who choose not to do it, and then somehow expect shelters and rescues to magically find space for the resulting litters and to make everything better.
We can’t.
Our shelter is full. Our fosters are full. Our team is exhausted. There is nowhere for us to simply put more animals.
We understand that people get overwhelmed. We understand that unexpected litters happen. We understand that sometimes people genuinely don’t know where to turn.
But please, contact us.
Do not leave animals outside our building and drive away. Give us a chance to make a plan. Give us some warning. Give us the information we need to properly care for them.
Thankfully, our camera picked up someone leaving this box, and I was alerted as soon as possible so I could rush over. It took approximately 20 minutes to catch the kittens because they were terrified and took off. We can only hope we found every single one.
If you are the person who left these kittens, please contact us. We need to know how many kittens there were, where they came from, how old they are, and anything else you can tell us. Because from what we can tell they all look different ages.
And the heartbreaking part is that there is no mother cat with these kittens. Which means there is still an unfixed cat out there to have more kittens.
We are tired. We are overwhelmed. But we are still here.
Please help us by giving us the opportunity to plan instead of leaving us to pick up the pieces.
These animals deserve better. And honestly, so do the people who have been working around the clock to care for them.
