A Governor General award-winning play about a WWII veteran’s emotional journey to Normandy in search of his brother’s grave.

Christmas decorations are coming along nicely!

Our poppy tree is probably our favourite & most important tree that we decorate every year.

Some facts about Christmas during WWI & WW2:

- In many countries, blackout restrictions meant no Christmas lights. Candles had to be kept low, and windows were covered. People celebrated in near darkness- especially in Britain to avoid becoming bombing targets.

- During WWII the Canadian government, along with volunteers did their best to send as many packages as possible containing maple candy, socks & letters to deployed soldiers.

- During Christmas in 1914, troops stopped fighting along parts of the Western Front. They sang carols across trenches, exchanged ci******es, chocolate & rations. This temporary truce was never repeated at the same scale, but it remains one of the most extraordinary moments of shared humanity in warfare.

-Trenches were decorated. Soldiers made little Christmas trees from branches, hung up candles, & would save treats or allocate rations to create a makeshift Christmas dinner.

We hope when you stop in at the Legion this Christmas season, you take a moment to enjoy our poppy tree & reflect fondly on those who served & what Christmas may have looked like for them & their families. They are the reason our Christmas lives on. 🕊️

We hope it serves as a reminder that the true warmth of the season lies in the small acts of kindness, connection & togetherness we share with those around us. 🎄♥️
