On Thursday October 1 at 3:46pm Rockglen Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle/field fire north of Rockglen. Just yet another reminder of the dangers of driving low vehicles in tall crops.

Yesterday afternoon rockglen fire department got called out at 3:05 pm to a combine/field fire north east of Rockglen. Crews, alongside some helpful locals got the fire under control.

Today at 3:56 pm Rockglen Fire Department got called out for another combine/field fire also north east of Rockglen. By the time crews arrived, the farmers and neighbours that showed up to help out, had the field fire out and under control, so that crews could work on cooling the combine itself.

Thanks to everyone that showed up to both of these fires to help out. It really does help a lot, especially with a volunteer fire departments response time. The distances we have to travel to get to the fire hall, along with the time it takes us to then travel from the fire hall to the fire. You people save a lot more than you can imagine if these fires were able to spread.

And with that, everyone have a safe and speedy rest of harvest!

⚠️ CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY IN SASKATCHEWAN ⚠️

The Rockglen Volunteer Fire Department is sharing this reminder about Henry’s Law and carbon-monoxide safety.

Know the requirements

By November 1, 2026, Carbon-monoxide alarm requirements will apply to certain residential buildings and suites in Saskatchewan. Residents, landlords, property managers, condominium corporations, and building owners should check the current Government of Saskatchewan requirements or contact their local authority to confirm whether their property is covered.

Possible examples include:

• Apartments
• Condominiums
• Homes with secondary suites
• Other buildings with multiple residential suites

Why CO alarms matter

Carbon monoxide is known as the “silent killer” because you cannot see it, smell it, or taste it.

It can be produced by furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, generators, vehicle exhaust, and other fuel-burning equipment.

A properly installed and maintained carbon-monoxide alarm can provide an early warning and help get you and your family to safety.

🚨 TEST YOUR CO ALARMS TODAY

✅ Press the test button on every carbon-monoxide alarm.
✅ Replace batteries as recommended by the manufacturer.
✅ Check alarm placement and replacement dates.
✅ Never ignore an alarm.

If a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside into fresh air and call 911 from a safe location.

Rockglen fire department was dispatched for a crop fire northwest of town this afternoon at approximately 2:32 pm which ended up being taken under control shortly thereafter.

We were also dispatched to a grass fire in the ditch along highway 18 a kilometre east of rockglen at approximately 6:08 pm.

The Rockglen Volunteer Fire Department is asking everyone to use extra caution during this stretch of hot, dry weather.

Even a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving grass or brush fire. Please do your part to help protect our community:

🔥 Avoid unnecessary outdoor burning.
🚬 Never throw cigarette butts out of vehicle windows.
🚜 Be mindful when using equipment that could create sparks in dry grass.
🏕️ Keep campfires small, attended at all times, and make sure they are completely extinguished before leaving.
🚗 Avoid parking vehicles on tall, dry grass, as hot exhaust systems can ignite vegetation.
🌾 Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.

We all have a role to play in preventing wildfires. A few extra minutes of caution today can prevent a devastating fire tomorrow.

This morning June 20th at around 10:00 am the fire department will be doing some training on this old duplex on Columbus drive (circled in red). We will just have a portion of Columbus drive blocked off right in front of the building until around noon. Fifth street N will stay open for access to houses that we may be blocking off. A big thank you to the Lisieux boys, John MacCrimmon, Lane Park, Marv Bakke, Leighton Ellert, and all the other volunteers who put on the pig roast last weekend. They do it all for free, but this time they put out a donation jar and gave all the donations to our fire department to put toward our vehicle extrication equipment that we’re fundraising for. We are very grateful for this and all other donations people have given toward this! They raised just over $700 for us, bringing our grand total so far to $30,326.44.

Over the last weekend, members from the Poplar River Mine Emergency Response Team went to Saskatoon to compete in the 56th annual SMA provincial competition. There are also two members from the Rockglen Fire Department on this team. There were a total of 19 teams from mines all over Saskatchewan, with 8 of them being surface mines and 11 coming from underground mines. These pictures show a few of the specialized skills that these teams are trained to do. They are judged on their ability to complete each scenario in a timely and safe manner. There are scenarios that include high-angle rope rescue, confined space rescues, firefighting with fire extinguishers, structural search and rescue, and motor vehicle extrication, just to name a few.

It has been a very busy week already for our firefighters. This morning at 6:32 Rockglen Fire Department got called out again for a vegetation/grass fire east of Rockglen, that was reportedly started by a downed power line.

This afternoon at 13:50 the department got called again for a rekindle from the fire this morning.
