Guest speaker is Jeannine Kralt, a Master Naturalist based in Grey County, and a dedicated volunteer for the Owen Sound Field Naturalists and the Peninsula and Sydenham Bruce Trail Clubs. Jeannine enjoys taking a closer look at the world around her and aims to help nature be more accessible, using her photography to tell stories. Another terrific potluck event yesterday. After much second guessing and worrying about the weather, it turned into a lovely, sunny afternoon with just a touch of fall crispness in the air.
Thanks to everyone for contributing to a fabulous meal and especially to Steve Pepper for help with set up, buying supplies, cooking and to Donna Murray, Jim Laliberte, Pat Leonard for looking after the bbq and serving of hot dogs.
As can be seen in the photos, everyone enjoyed catching up.
Next regular meeting: Tuesday, September 22nd at 7 pm in Point Clark.

Wonderful community support for nature at last week's shoreline clean-up at Station Beach! Thanks to Lake Huron Coastal Centre staff for organizing and running the event, to the Kincardine & District Lion's Club for preparing and serving a great lunch, to KEAN, sponsor ChevRon Solutions and to all the HBN members and Kincardinites who came out to support a healthy shoreline.

Donna Murray had an insect encounter that was a first for her - a katydid.
Katydids are related to crickets and grasshoppers. Their bodies are flattened and look like leaves. When the males rub their legs together it makes the sound, "katy-did, katy-didn't".

Great cycling outing today south along lakeshore. Due to humidity/heat we chose a shorter 15km loop starting at Station Beach, with stops at the Lagoons, the garden of James Turland & Becky Grieveson, and finally a quick detour to check out the namesake of Boiler Beach - the Erie Belle boiler.

James took us on a tour of his garden and shared information on caring for backyard birds. There were many interesting water features and terraces in his extensive naturalized yard, full of fruit trees and bushes, herbs and native pollinators.

We enjoyed fellowship and refreshments afterwards, under the shade of a maple on Station Beach.
