Richmond Sunrise Rotary

Richmond Sunrise Rotary Eradicating Polio, fundraising for high school scholarships, building libraries in Africa, supporting our community's marginalized -- it's what Rotarians do.

We're a group of local volunteers who prefer to think of ourselves as family. We meet every Thursday morning at 7am, and despite the early hour we still manage to have a good time.

A HUGE "thank you" to all our amazing and generous guests at our Annual Auction Gala last Friday! With your help and generosity, GIRLS CLUB: in GIRLS CLUB raised $21,224 and counting.

Nights like this remind our club why we do what we do and the fund we can have doing it! Every bid, every donation, and every smile across the room adds up to something truly meaningful for our community.

A special thank you to our many generous sponsors whose support made this evening possible β€” our major live auction partners, our dedicated table sponsors, and the countless local businesses who contributed to our silent auction. Your generosity is helping organizations like Girls Club make a difference in Richmond and beyond.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by people who show up, give generously, and make this work possible. See you next year! πŸŽ‰

Beyond the calls, the training, and the courage their jobs demand every single day, Richmond Firefighters show up for our community in ways that often go unnoticed.

We're proud to have donated $6,000 to support the meaningful work they do not just as first responders, but as neighbours, volunteers, and community builders.

Service above self takes many forms. These folks live it daily.

What's Happening Under the Fraser River β€” And Why It Matters to Richmond

** One of the best parts of Thursday mornings with Rotary? Learning what's actually happening in our own backyard. **

Last week, we welcomed Michelle and Danielle from the Highway 99 Tunnel Program team for a fascinating update on the Fraser River Tunnel Project β€” and there's a lot to be excited about.

Here are a few highlights:

πŸš‡ A brand-new immersed tube tunnel is being built just upstream from the existing George Massey Tunnel β€” with four lanes in each direction, including dedicated bus lanes.

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš² For the first time ever, there will be a pedestrian and cycling path crossing the Fraser River at this location β€” connecting Richmond and Delta and linking into existing active transportation networks.

πŸ—οΈ Early construction is already underway β€” tree clearing, utility relocations, and site prep β€” with in-river work expected to begin later this summer.

The project team is actively engaging the public throughout the process, including input from local accessibility groups and community stakeholders.

$216,000 raised. 55 cities. Over 5,000 conversations about mental health.

That's what happened after Sachin Latti walked into our Thursday morning breakfast meeting and shared a bold idea with a room full of Rotarians.

Last week, Sachin returned to Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise to tell us the rest of the story β€” and it was an incredible set of stories. The original plan was to run 100 km a day across Canada. But something unexpected kept happening: people stopped him. They wanted to talk. So Sachin and his team slowed down, spent more time in communities, and by the end, those conversations had become the mission.

In 80 days, they raised over $216,000 for mental health initiatives β€” supporting veterans, first responders dealing with PTSD, youth programs, and men's mental health. In 2025, Member of Parliament Ernie Klassen recognized Sachin in the House of Commons as the first South Asian to run across Canada β€” now part of Canada's permanent parliamentary record.

One moment from the road stuck with us: in Saskatoon, a woman who had once struggled with addiction reunited with the police officer who had arrested her years earlier β€” an arrest she credited with saving her life. That reunion gave an officer, worn down by the emotional toll of his work, a rare reminder of the difference he'd made.

Again and again, the theme was the same: purpose and connection change lives.

Sachin is now building the Sach In Motion Fund, a foundation focused on awareness, impact grants for grassroots mental health initiatives, and programs to help men build resilience, direction, and community.

We're proud that Richmond Sunrise Rotary was among the first to believe in this project. Our early seed contribution helped Sachin unlock broader support and get moving β€” literally.

Have you ever wondered what it looks like when purpose puts a lifetime of skills and experience to work β€” halfway around the world? 🌏

Members of Richmond Sunrise Rotary β€” Peachy Magistrado and Elena Agala, led by Dr. Danny Salcedo β€” recently embarked on a three-day dental mission in the Philippines, partnering with the Caring Hearts Dentistry Society, Rotary Club of Lipa, Rotary District 3820, and Rotary World Help. Together, they provided dental care to over 2,200 individuals in communities with little to no access to dental services. 🦷

This is what it looks like when you're part of something bigger. No corner office required β€” just the willingness to show up and make a difference alongside people who share your values.

The beauty of Rotary International is that you don't go it alone. Our global network of partner clubs and organizations means that when you're ready to contribute, the connections are already there. All you have to do is decide to participate.

These three Richmond Sunrise members did β€” and 2,200 people are better off for it.

If you have time, talent, and a desire to give back β€” locally and beyond β€” we'd love to meet you. Join us any Thursday morning, 7:00–8:15 AM at the Riverside Grand Ballroom in Richmond, B.C. β˜•

Congratulations to our esteemed member and past president, Mary Lou Miles, who recently entered post-work life after a distinguished career at Genus Capital Management.

Mary Lou has been an invaluable part of the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise, bringing her expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service. And now that she's officially retired, we're looking forward to seeing even more of Mary Lou at our Thursday morning meetings (at least while she’s not enjoying some well-earned travel).

Speaking of active retirees...

We’re incredibly lucky to have several members who are retired leaders like Mary Lou in our club: professionals who have the time, expertise, and networks to make a real difference.

If you're entering this exciting chapter of life and looking for meaningful ways to stay engaged, come experience a club where you can continue to make connections, build new friendships, and have fun finding new ways to give back!

At Richmond Sunrise Rotary, you'll find: βœ… Meaningful community impact βœ… Connection to Rotary International's worldwide network βœ… A place you actually enjoy beingβ€”because service shouldn’t feel like an obligation

On Monday we joined family and friends in celebrating the life of our friend and Rotarian, Peter Levelton, who would have celebrated his 79th birthday. Club Past President, active volunteer, proud father and Papa, ingenious mixer of pancake batter. Thank you for everything you did for our cub and community. You'll be missed but not forgotten.
