Autism BC

Autism BC We empower, support, and connect the autism community in BC. AutismBC™ is a non-profit and registered organization.

AutismBC is British Columbia’s first and only autistic-led advocacy organization and registered charity. Our neuro-affirming non-profit organization is led by a team with diverse lived experiences as neurodivergent people and/or caregivers of neurodivergent family members. Since 1975, we have supported, empowered, and connected autistic individuals and their families across British Columbia throug

h inclusive community programs and trusted, non-prescriptive information services. We envision a British Columbia where all autistic people are accepted, included, and supported. Our work is rooted in lived experience and guided by a neuro-affirmative, non-clinical approach. We support the social model of disability while recognizing the medical model’s role in diagnosis. We amplify autistic voices and centre the needs and priorities of our community in all that we do. Our province-wide programs—including information services, social clubs, peer support groups, and educational workshops—support autistic individuals and their families. With Regional Coordinators and offices in the Lower Mainland, Northern BC, the Interior, and Vancouver Island, we serve diverse and intersectional communities and represent a growing membership of over 11,000 people across the province. Our dedicated staff and volunteers deliver province-wide programming that promotes connection, knowledge, and belonging.

Happy pride month! The autism community intersects with so many identities, including those under the 2SLGBTQIA+ umbrella. It’s important that we take time to celebrate what makes us unique, what brings us together, and show that we are united.

Did you know that we have resources on our website covering topics important to the q***r community? Our blog, “Gender and autism: What the autistic community wants you to know,” is filled with resources to support trans autistic people, other members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and for allies to build understanding. Our annual raffle helps us support thousands of people across BC every year. It’s our biggest fundraiser, ensuring we can offer inclusive programs and trusted resources to our 13,000 members and beyond. And it wouldn’t be possible without our presenting sponsor, Applewood Auto Group.

Applewood is a local business made up of people who care deeply about giving back to the community. They have sponsored us with a vehicle donation six years in a row and are always generous with their time. Thank you, Applewood Auto Group for helping the autistic community and our families.

This year, Applewood has donated a fully electric 2026 KIA EV4 worth $47,895! Here it is at Ladner May Days!

Get your tickets before June 24 and you’ll be entered in the early bird draw where you could win a Go Pro Camera, YETI Rambler, YETI Sidekick and a YETI Daytrip. Each ticket sold enters you into the Early Bird Draw, the Summer Bonus Draw and the Final Draw for the grand prize car!

It’s National AccessAbility Week! Beginning the last Sunday in May, this week is an annual celebration of the contributions and leadership of disabled people in Canada and the ongoing efforts to make Canada a more accessible and disability-inclusive place.

We encourage our allies to use this time to reflect on accessibility and inclusion in your friendships, families, places of business, recreation, and communities. Does your work have a thorough inclusion policy? Is there space at your table for disabled voices? Taking a moment to make even a small change can make a world of difference.

📣 Parents and caregivers in rural and remote areas: we need your input on the barriers you face in accessing autism assessments and supports.

Access to timely diagnosis, services, and community support looks very different depending on where you live in BC. Your experiences can help identify gaps and inform advocacy efforts to improve access and equity across the province.

On behalf of everyone at AutismBC, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the Hummingbird Award Advisory Committee and to DAWN Canada for this recognition.

To be selected as the 2025 Institutional recipient in the Advocacy, Policy and Public Leadership category is both humbling and energizing. This award reflects the voices of the autistic people, families, and communities we are privileged to work alongside every day. It is our lived experience and leadership that drives everything we do, and this recognition belongs to our community as much as it does to our team.

We are honoured to be part of a community of advocates working toward a world where women and gender-diverse people with disabilities are fully included, supported, and celebrated. DAWN Canada's leadership in this space is an inspiration to us, and we are proud to be recognized alongside that legacy.
