Today, we learned that Mel Zajac has passed away.
Like so many others across British Columbia, we are deeply saddened by this news.
Mel was far more than a successful businessman. He was a humanitarian whose generosity, compassion, and vision changed countless lives. Through the incredible work of Zajac Ranch and the Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation, thousands of children and young adults living with complex medical conditions and disabilities were given opportunities, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
What we admired most about Mel was that he didn’t just see a need. He did something about it. He was all gas, no breaks.
As someone who has spent the past 20+ years building Blanket BC and serving vulnerable people throughout our communities, I have always respected individuals who turn compassion into action. Mel was one of those people.
In a remarkable coincidence, today I also received an invitation to attend the Zajac Nights Gala. I can think of no greater honour than to join others in celebrating a man whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of philanthropists, volunteers, and community leaders.
Mel’s impact cannot be measured simply in dollars raised or buildings constructed. His true legacy lives in the smiles of children, the strength of families, and the countless lives forever changed because he cared enough to make a difference.
Thank you, Mel, for showing us what is possible when generosity is paired with purpose.
Rest peacefully, my friend. Your work here will continue.
