BEYOND NALOXONE: A critical warning about the limits of life-saving tools. ⚠️

While Naloxone is a vital tool in our community, it is not a "magic bullet" for the current toxic drug crisis. Recent reports show the animal sedative medetomidine is flooding the streets—and because it is not an opioid, Naloxone will not reverse its effects. There is a growing concern that the widespread promotion of Naloxone may unintentionally create a false sense of security, leading some to overlook the extreme unpredictability of illicit drugs today. It is important to realize that no safety kit can fully protect you from a supply contaminated with veterinary tranquilizers that cause prolonged unconsciousness and brain-altering oxygen deprivation.

Public Awareness is Key: We must move beyond relying solely on rescue tools and recognize the life-threatening reality of the illicit market. Every time a substance is used, the risk of encountering an irreversible poison is present. Please educate yourself and your loved ones: the only way to be truly safe is to understand the lethal nature of today's drug supply.

What more do you think can be done to raise awareness about these hidden dangers in our community?

URGENT DRUG ALERT: Record-breaking spike in B.C. drug poisonings. 🚨
British Columbia has just hit a staggering historical high for paramedic-attended drug poisonings, with over 1,100 calls in a single week. This dangerous surge is being driven by a highly toxic supply that is overwhelming emergency responders across the province.

Health officials are warning that a potent animal tranquilizer called medetomidine is being mixed into the unregulated drug supply. This substance causes prolonged, deep sedation and—most critically—does not respond to Naloxone. Please share this immediately to help save lives. Stay informed on the latest warnings here:

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has issued a province-wide drug alert, noting new substances in the unregulated drug supply are putting people at risk province-wide.

With the federal government pulling back from BC’s decriminalization trial, many are reflecting on where this “well‑intended” but misguided policy went wrong. Addressing addiction with empathy matters — but empathy without structure risks deepening the very harm it aims to heal.
The right approach must not only focus on treatment but also on reversing the trend: reducing the number of people who become dependent, preventing others from trying drugs in the first place, and helping everyone — especially youth — clearly see the danger and destructiveness that drugs bring. At the same time, we can still be generous and heartfelt in supporting those already struggling, offering real pathways to recovery and renewed hope.
Let’s transform this policy failure into a turning point. Instead of “harm reduction,” Canada needs a balanced approach that combines compassion with consequence — helping people find real hope, and our communities some peace again. True success and meaningful change will depend on partnership across every level of government and the courage of everyday citizens who choose to speak up, get involved, and stand together for a drug‑free, healthier, and more hopeful future.
What kind of recovery‑centered system would truly give people the new life they deserve?
