raised-bungalows and two townhouse developments. Only twenty years ago, the land on the west side of Yonge Street north of Elgin Mills Road and sou
th of Brookside Drive was mainly made up of larger residential properties with older homes. When services infastructure was put in place, many residents attempted to sell their land to builders and developers. Therefore, many applications came before the Committee of Adjustment and the Land Division Committee. Gradually, newer roads and homes were developed, and the community began to transform itself into upscale community with lots of amenities. There's an excellent Elgin West Community center with a pool, very strong public schools (Trillium Woods and Silver Pines), lots of parks with kids' playgrounds and shopping nearby: "Longos" in the south east corner and Woodland Shopping plaza in the south west with a European Deli, a coffee shop, a convenience store and a number of activity centers like a dance and yoga studios, a karate school etc. On the east side of Bathurst Street, the Westbrook Community stretches out along Shaftsbury Avenue. In the north part of the community along the south side of Gamble Road, townhomes with both double and single-car garages are included as part of Gamble Real Estate. This area is still undergoing change the same way as the Elgin Mills/Brookside neighbourhood has developed earlier.
