As Thanksgiving approaches, we give thanks for the food on our tables and for the people and communities working to make sure there is room at the table for everyone.
Across Ontario, United Church communities are responding to food insecurity in practical and compassionate ways: filling food cupboards, preparing community meals, growing fresh produce, and welcoming neighbours.
At Islington United Church, that response is taking root in the Giving Garden. With support from TUCC’s Lillian Massey-Treble Fund, the church expanded its garden indoors with hydroponic growing units, allowing fresh produce to be grown year-round for the Mabelle Food Program.
It’s one example of what can happen when communities of faith respond creatively to local needs.
This Thanksgiving, we give thanks for all those who grow, cook, share, welcome, and work to ensure their neighbours have enough.
Watch Islington’s Giving Garden story...and perhaps let it seed an idea in your own community of faith.
