SEIU Healthcare

SEIU Healthcare The Healthcare Union representing more than 75,000 frontline workers in Canada. As frontline workers, we see what healthcare actually looks like on the ground.

We are Canada’s healthcare union with more than 60,000 frontline healthcare workers in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and homecare agencies in communities throughout Ontario. As a union, our first priority is to ensure that the work of our members is recognized and valued by employers. This is the traditional role of unions, achieved through collective bargaining and other labour relations

activities. But in a time when the healthcare system is undergoing profound transformation, we also have a responsibility to make sure that the voices of frontline workers are heard and respected when decisions are made about healthcare delivery. We have direct relationships with patients and their families. We provide day-to-day services that are fundamentally important to the smooth, efficient, and humane functioning of the healthcare system.

Our members showed up for the annual Indigenous Workers of Colour Conference, hosted by the Toronto & York Region Labour Council.

This year’s theme, A New Era for the Working Class: Being BIPOC in These Damn Historic Times, created space for workers to learn, connect, and build solidarity across our movements. Because worker power must be rooted in equity, justice, and belonging.

Our union is strongest when our members are ready to lead.

Our member organizers came together for La Brigada organizing training, joined by organizers from the International Union, to sharpen our conversations, share our stories, learn from one another, and build the power we need to win.

Stronger leaders. Stronger conversations. Stronger union.

Today, API members came together at Trillium Care Community in Kingston to celebrate Philippine Independence Day with pride, culture, and community.

It was a beautiful day of solidarity among Trillium members, recognizing the strength, contributions, and leadership of Filipino healthcare workers who continue to make our union and communities stronger.

A special thank you to MPP Ted Hsu for joining the celebration, and to SEIU Healthcare Secretary-Treasurer John Klein for standing with members on this important day.

Mabuhay! 🇵🇭💜

We’re honoured to have been recognized this past weekend by the Canadian Association of Labour Media with the 2026 awards for:

🥇 Best Use of Social Media
🥇 Best Short Video

The Best Short Video award recognized our Walk a Day series with our Secretary of State for Labour John Zerucelli., where he stepped into the shoes of a frontline healthcare worker, Jennifer.

Together, we helped bring the realities, challenges, and importance of care work to life in a powerful and authentic way. Just weeks later, he helped deliver our $1,100 PSW Tax Credit to more than 300,000 Canadians.

The Best Use of Social Media award is a testament to the incredible work our team does every day to tell workers’ stories, amplify members’ voices, and engage healthcare workers across multiple platforms.

What makes these awards especially meaningful is that CALM represents more than 250 unions across Canada. To be recognized among so many talented labour communicators is an honour we don’t take lightly.

These awards belong to our members, whose stories inspire everything we do.

Another first this year was our Health & Safety Conference on June 2–3.

Members from across Ontario participated in keynote presentations, interactive activities, and focus groups focused on strengthening workplace health and safety.

Together, we explored ways to build union leadership, protect workers’ physical and mental well-being, and create safer workplaces.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and helping shape a stronger future of care.

On June 1, our members banded together to rally for Injured Workers Day at Queen’s Park. 💜

Swagged out in purple, we mobilized for fair compensation, stronger safety regulations, and improved protections for those who have been hurt or become sick on the job.

We fight for workers who suffer from work-related injuries, to both your physical and mental health, and we want to let you know that we are determined to win the support and protections you need and deserve. ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻

We show up. We fight, and we win for all health and community care workers.

This year is one of many firsts, including our PSW GALA that took place on May 19. We hosted a celebratory dinner and dance to honour our PSWs' strength, dedication, and collective power across our union.

Many of our PSWs enthusiastically showed up and showed out in their dazzling outfits, and pillars of our union were presented with special awards that reflect the values of our New Era, making the night a true success. 🪩
