Tabarak dreams of becoming an engineer to build orphanages.
This dream was born after her father's death and the burning of their home, causing the family to lose everything!

After the accident, the family suffered from difficult financial and living conditions, in addition to the deteriorating psychological state of the orphaned children, who cried whenever they saw a picture of their father hanging on the wall... which prompted the mother to remove the pictures from the walls until they overcome the psychological crisis the children are suffering from.

With Al-Ayn embracing the nine-member family, gradual improvement began in their living and psychological conditions.

As happy times returned to the family, Tabarak began to regain her steps toward the future. She enrolled in remedial classes during the summer vacation in preparation for the new academic year, and the Al Ayn Health Center also provided her with braces for her teeth, so she could start her year with a more beautiful smile.

Today, after achieving an average of (94.18%) in the second intermediate grade, she is preparing for a new academic stage and continues to approach her dream.

Every child in Al-Ayn’s care has different needs. Following individual assessments, children who require additional emotional, psychological or developmental support can be signposted to our Hikayati Centre in Najaf, where they can access services tailored to their needs.

So far, 5,535 children have benefited from Hikayati’s services - finding a safe space to heal, develop new skills and discover their potential.

We believe the right support at the right time can change the course of a child’s future.

Healing begins when a child feels seen, heard and supported.

The loss of a parent leaves more than an empty chair at the table. For many orphaned children, it brings grief, anxiety and emotional wounds that can shape every part of childhood.

This World Mental Health Day, we remember that caring for orphaned children means caring for their wellbeing too.

Through our 16 Luminous Stars Centres across Iraq and our Hikayati Centre in Najaf, orphaned children receive psychological rehabilitation, safe spaces to heal, and the support they need to regain confidence and hope.
