It’s World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. This year’s theme is Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care.

Pain and symptom management is an essential part of palliative care and at Hill House Hospice, our clinical team focuses on helping residents manage pain and other symptoms throughout their end-of-life journey. Through individualized care, medication management, and comfort-focused treatments, we work to ease symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, nausea, anxiety, and restlessness. Our goal is to help residents feel as comfortable as possible, while supporting their dignity and quality of life.

On World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, let's raise awareness of the important role hospice and palliative care play in providing comfort, dignity, and support.

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, organizations across the country will mark DAF Day, Canada’s national giving day for donor-advised funds. Hill House Hospice is proud to be taking part.

More than $17 billion is already committed to charity in Canadian donor-advised funds. DAF Day is the one day the whole sector celebrates that generosity and encourages more of those charitable dollars to reach the causes Canadians care about.

Here’s how you can be part of it.

If you have a donor-advised fund:
On October 8, you can recommend a grant to Hill House Hospice through your DAF provider in just a few minutes. Your gift helps provide compassionate hospice care to families in our community and puts generosity into action on DAF Day.

🎭 A night at the theatre with The Curtain Club Theatre!

Did you know The Curtain Club Theatre has been entertaining audiences for almost 75 years?

Our Volunteer Coordinators, Joanne Giannakopoulos and Melanie Litwin, partnered with the Curtain Club Theatre to share their wonderful production of 37 Postcards on Charity Night. The evening brought together other charities, along with Hill House staff and volunteers, for a night of great theatre.

This little gem in Richmond Hill has a wonderful history! Founded in 1954 with about 25 members, the Curtain Club began by rehearsing in members’ homes, building sets in garages and storing costumes in attics, while performing in local halls and schools. In 1961, they moved into a converted service garage off Yonge Street with a 97-seat auditorium. Then, in 1971, club members raised funds and hammers to create their current facility at the corner of Newkirk and Elgin Mills in Richmond Hill, which opened in 1972.

Grateful to welcome MP Vincent Ho for Richmond Hill South to Hill House Hospice!

We were pleased to host MP Vincent Ho for a visit to Hill House and to share more about the compassionate, expert end-of-life care we provide to residents and their families at no cost.

Thank you for your advocacy and support for palliative care in our community. We look forward to continuing to work together to help ensure that more families can access the care and support they need.
