Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the L’Arche Daybreak community stands in solidarity with Indigenous families, Survivors, and communities across Canada.

At Daybreak, we firmly believe that a truly human society is one where every person has unique and sacred value, and where everyone genuinely belongs. True reconciliation requires us to listen deeply to the truths of the past, acknowledge the intergenerational trauma of residential schools, and commit to healing.

Today, we wear our orange shirts and commit to the ongoing journey of listening, learning, and walking together in mutual respect. Because every child matters. 🧡

We gathered at the Dayspring this week for our Solidarity Retreat Day. We focused our time together on solidarity with L’Arche communities around the world. We shared stories, got to know each other, and made postcards to send to some of our communities across the globe. The day reminded us that we are part of something much bigger: a global family living the same values and mission.

Today marks a significant day in our community as we remember and celebrate Henri Nouwen on the 30th anniversary of his death. Henri was a beloved friend who shared his life with us and discovered home in our community. We give thanks for all the ways that Henri inspired us to deepen our mission and our call to discover and create belonging as a community: "Community is where humility and glory touch."

We paid tribute to Henri at our Monday morning Dayspring Service. The Spirit Movers, along with some of our community members, took part in a special celebration at St. John's Light on the Hill, where Henri is buried.

Anne-Marie from Heart House was very enthusiastic about participating in the 46th annual Terry Fox Run in Oak Ridges earlier today, accompanied by Rob Ens and Mary Bastedo. She was asked to cut the ribbon to start the run, along with other cancer survivors. Thank you, Anne-Marie, Rob, and Mary, for raising awareness and supporting cancer research.

🎉This weekend, we held our annual Barn Dance for Solidarity fundraiser. It was a wonderful evening for family and friends to gather, dance, and spend time together while raising funds for L'Arche communities around the world.

This year's theme was "Hollywood," and we were thrilled by our community's creativity and by seeing everyone who joined us in their favourite outfits.

Our evening at the barn featured our wonderful DJ Freda from CornerHouse, and the popular plate dance led by Lorenzo of Brookwood House. Between all the dancing, we also had time to enjoy delicious hot apple c***r made by the Red House team.
