L'Arche Daybreak Celebrating the gifts and lives of people with an intellectual disability. Many local friends participate in our community life as volunteers.

People are drawn to our community from all over the world seeking a different way of life and bringing with them a wide range of beliefs, backgrounds, and qualifications.

We gathered today to watch Canada’s team play its first World Cup match at the Meeting Hall. It was a nail- biter game. The last goal to tie the game brought on an eruption of joy and relief! Thank you to Christine and the Connections program for creating our own World Cup flag wall to honour all the teams that qualified. Looking forward to Thursday’s match!

🌳We enjoyed beautiful weather today for our annual tree planting day! We are so grateful to the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for their wonderful support and generous funding that made it all happen.

A special thanks also goes out to Alex Karney and Geoffrey Chan from Urban Forest Associates for their help in organizing the planting of 140 trees and shrubs at the Cedars. We couldn’t have done it without you!

It was great to see so many people from our homes, along with the Craft Studio, the Woodery, Connections, and the Able Network, come together for such a fun day. It was a real team effort, and we’re excited to have made a positive impact on our environment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today! Your enthusiasm and support made all the difference!🌳

This week, Amanda, along with Tanya and Barbara represented L’Arche Daybreak at Queens Park, where they were warmly welcomed as special guests by the Honourable Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. Their visit included a special meeting with the Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario. Thank you to the Premier, to Minister Parsa and his staff, Claudia and David, for making this day so memorable.

🎶This week, the Voices Alive Choir held an engaging performance and fundraiser for L'Arche Daybreak at Victory Baptist Church. Voices Alive is a vibrant and inclusive choir for women of all skill levels, with chapters in both Newmarket and Stouffville. The event featured a diverse selection of songs that showcased the choir's amazing talent and dedication. The Lively Loaf was also present for the evening to sell their biscotti and chat more about the program. We are especially grateful to our volunteer, Mary Bennett, for helping to organize this wonderful evening. It was a fun night for all who attended.

🎶This week, we had the pleasure of attending a wonderful performance by the Richland Academy School Bilingual Choir at the Dayspring Chapel. Made up of students in grades 4 to 6, the choir showcased their love for music through a variety of songs. The performance featured both group numbers and solo acts, marking the first time the choir performed outside of their school. Our audience enjoyed the performance, clapping, moving, and singing along with each song. We hope to welcome them back again soon!

Today, we welcomed the Markham Group of Artists for their Plein Air Wednesdays event! Plein air painting, which involves painting outdoors, allowed the local artists to capture the beauty of their surroundings on canvas. L'Arche Daybreak is an ideal location for this, featuring our lovely pond, chapel, lush greenery, and barn. We hope they left with many beautiful paintings.
