YOUR TOP 10 WORST CITIES TO IMMIGRATE TO IN CANADA أعلى 10 أسوأ مدن الهجرة إلى كندا

When we first published The Top Worst Places to Move in Canada, it was not received so well. Probably because of the use of 'worst' in the title. So we decided to ask you. We conducted an internet poll, that most scientific of data collection methods. The poll included the 8 cities in our original list and 12 major cities throughout Canada. Here's how our users ranked the top 10:

7. TIE: MONTREAL, THETFORD MINES, SARNIA AND VANCOUVER - 5% OF VOTES
Thetford Mines and Sarnia both found themselves on our original list due to their reputations for being extremely polluted. There was considerable debate in the comments section of the article about whether or not Sarnia remains polluted. In 2013 a Canadian magazine ran a story claiming that Sarnia was the most polluted city in Canada.
FactJunkie writes:
"Sarnia has impressive social services available and is a common through-destination for people traveling to the States. Heck, the similar city of Windsor, Ontario has higher unemployment and is right across from Detroit... it has higher su***de rates, too. And it's only 2 hours away from Sarnia. Another great pick."

M Egan S Horttie writes:
"Sorry Ana if you lived in Sarnia, you would see that there is some truth to this article lol. If you are not working in either the Chemical Valley part of Sarnia or Blue water health, expect an entry level low paying job here."
Corduroy-Pillows writes:
"Over last couple years, Downtown Sarnia has enjoyed and very encouraging amount of revitalization. New residential spaces converted from older buildings and homegrown businesses moving into the empty store fronts. There's First Fridays events, a few decent festivals, art galleries, music venues, pubs, restaurants, green space and a new craft brewery opening up downtown. Sarnia is doing fine."
M Egan S Horttie counters:
"Really where? because I sure as hell didn't see much of anything, and I was there 2 days ago Where was I going ? Work place Group Employment! because I trained for 6 weeks, for a different trade out side of London (Yet another opportunity not available in this dump!) OH WOW more pubs ,and restaurants? That oughta boost our horrible employment rate, best look for another job on the side.. (If you can even f*cking find one) Let's not forget our lovely waterfront Centennial Park, full of Asbestos. As a kid ya this city was great, Canatara Park was awesome, the Howard Watson Natural trail is great the Beach, is great. I loved the Animal Farm. But as far as employment goes, that's far from being revitalized, not everyone wants to be a Chemical Engineer, or a goddamn nurse. Or sharpen pencils all day in an office. Those are pretty much your only options here. Oh and such a shame about Montanas, AGAIN. You like many other Sarnians may already be retired, not young and looking to find their way. Sarnia is showing it's age, and it's not looking good so far. It's old, and tired like the many people who live here anyway. The only big success was Bayfest. But even that seems to have been taken away from us. Oh yes, and apparently blinkers are optional on cars in this city."

HOW TO IMMIGRATE TO CANADA كيفية الهجرة إلى كندا

People can immigrate to Canada by finding a job, joining a family that is already there or by investing in the Canadian economy. Additionally, people who study in Canada can choose to stay permanently after getting a work permit. Refugees and asylum seekers can settle in Canada under specific circumstances.

There are several programs to consider to apply for permanent residence in Canada:

● Express Entry for Skilled Workers and Tradespeople
● Start-up Visa Program
● Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program
● Self-Employed Persons Program
● Family Sponsorship
● Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
● Caregiver Program
● Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Once you decide which is the program for you, you can view our videos about that particular application process, as well as learn about the application forms, the fees, and the supporting documents from our website.

Regardless of meeting the specific immigration program criteria, you must also satisfy general admissibility criteria. Otherwise, you may be denied entry in Canada due to inadmissibility reasons, for security reasons such as having committed human or international rights violations, for having committed serious crimes involving more than 10 years imprisonment, for having driven under the influence of alcohol or drugs, for having participated in organized criminal activity, for medical or financial reasons, for failure to comply with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in the past or just for being related to an inadmissible family member.

Express Entry Skilled Workers
If you want to immigrate to Canada under the Express Entry Program you must be able to contribute to the local economy by having skilled work experience. You can immigrate under one of the three federal economic immigration program or under one of the provincial nomination programs:

● Federal Skilled Worker Program
● Federal Skilled Trades Program
● Canadian Experience Class
● Provincial Nominee Programs

If you want to immigrate as a skilled worker under Express Entry, you must prove that you can meet the minimum requirements for one of the programs, including relevant work experience and skills, job expertise, sufficient number of working hours, adequate language ability, and appropriate education. Having a valid job offer is a big help but the biggest asset is to have a provincial nomination.

Skilled workers are given entry to Canada through Express Entry on the basis of the number of points earned through the point-based ranking system applied to the qualified pool of candidates. Only candidates with the highest number of points for all comprehensive criteria are given an invitation to apply for permanent residence status. To see the current acceptable scores, go to our website.

An alternative way to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker is through the Quebec-selected skilled workers program which sets specific immigration criteria for the province of Quebec.

Start-up Visa Program
Businessmen who can prove that they have a fresh start-up idea that can benefit the Canadian economy by building an innovative and competitive business venture can apply to immigrate to Canada under the Start-up Visa Program.

In addition, applicants must prove that:

● The business is supported by a designated organization, such as a venture capital fund, an angel investor group, or a business incubator.
● They meet the the ownership requirements in a way that each applicant holds at least 10 percent, whereas the applicant and the designated organization together hold more than 50 percent of the voting rights in the business.
● They meet the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 language requirements for English, French, or both.
● Own sufficient settlement funds for personal and support of the family members, in amount of minimum CDN$12,300 for one dependant or of maximum CDN $32,550 for seven or more dependants.

Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program
To be able to immigrate to Canada under the Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program, you must have a personal net worth of at least CDN$10 million acquired through lawful business or investment activities and obtain a due diligence report for your worth at your expense from one of the designated financial institutions.

You must also make an at-risk investment of at least CDN $2 million in the Immigrant Investor Venture Capital (IIVC) Fund.

Additionally, you must meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 language requirement and have completed a Canadian post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate of at least one year, or an equivalent foreign degree.

Bridge Training Programs
Bridge training programs help qualified internationally trained individuals move quickly into the labour market in Ontario. They assess your existing skills and competencies, compared to Ontario employer expectations. They provide training and Canadian workplace experience without duplicating what you have already learned.

Some bridge training programs offer mentoring opportunities with established professionals to help you become certified or registered in your field.

Each bridge training program is different and may provide you with:

An assessment of your education and skills
Clinical or workplace experience
Skills training or targeted academic training programs
Preparation for a licence or certification examination
Language training for your profession or trade
Individual learning plans to identify any added training you may need

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has introduced an Ontario Bridging Participant Assistance Program, which provides bursaries of up to $5,000 to internationally trained individuals participating in eligible Ontario Bridge Training programs offered by Ontario colleges and universities. These bursaries cover participants’ direct education costs not covered by the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Such costs can include tuition, books and equipment.
