Meet Andrew, a determined 8-year-old boy with a joyful smile that will melt your heart. He’s a diligent student who placed second in his class exams.

Even though untreated clubfoot causes him pain, Andrew continues to walk to school — 3 km each way — refusing to miss class!

The first thing he plans to do after foot-straightening surgery is put on shoes so he can play football with the other boys.

Awa Jacques Chirac is the Coordinator of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Program Manager for Hope and Healing’s medical partner in Cameroon. He coordinates medical outreach clinics in hard-to-reach and underserved communities, so specialized doctors and nurses can find and assess children with disabilities.

Chirac prays that God would use him to inspire more young people to become the hands and feet of Jesus in the field, and that he will be able to make life better for vulnerable children in need.

Thank you, Awa Jacques Chirac, for sharing God’s love and for giving kids with disabilities a chance to live healthier, hope-filled lives. You are making a difference!

“I couldn’t run. I did not have the opportunity to play football or drive a car… I am happy that my son will be able to do all the things I wasn’t able to do.” – Innocent, Jalam’s dad

Jalam’s father, aunt, uncle, and grandmother have lived with untreated clubfeet all their lives. They suffered because they didn’t know treatment was available. So, when Jalam was also born with bilateral clubfeet, his parents felt disappointed and worried about Jalam’s future.

Then, hospital staff told Jalam’s family that clubfoot was treatable… that Jalam’s feet could be straightened… that the painful cycle of clubfoot could be broken. His parents were relieved and hopeful that their infant would be able to walk without pain, like other children.

Thanks to compassionate Canadian friends, Jalam has received life-transforming corrective casting and his feet are straight. Now, Jalam is a strong and energetic toddler, walking into a future full of possibility. He is a testimony of renewed hope to his family.

For 13-year-old Elijah, physiotherapy meant the hope of recovery after a serious case of malaria.

Because of generous friends like you, Elijah received physiotherapy sessions and used a donated stationary bicycle to strengthen his muscles and improve his stamina. With the help of trained physiotherapists, Elijah is overcoming muscle weakness and gradually returning to doing the things he loves.

As an orthopaedic surgeon and the medical director at our partner hospital, he is committed to expanding the scope and reach of orthopaedic care in Malawi.
