At Kwaprow M/A Junior High School in Ghana, teachers had shared that some girls miss school during their periods due to lack of access and fear of embarrassment.

So in April, we distributed 288 packages of menstrual products to over 100 girls, helping ensure they can go to school with confidence.

Plus, we hosted a health education session for both girls and boys to open up conversations about understanding, respect, and breaking stigma.

Thank you for supporting this initiative!

Periods are natural, but girls shouldn’t have to miss school because of them.

A Unicef and World Health Organization report found that about 80% of women and girls in Ghana participated in school, work, or social activities during their last period.

That means 1 in 5 did not.

We’re working with a local school in Ghana to help change that. More details to come soon!

If you’ve noticed our feed has been a little still lately, there’s a good reason for it. We haven’t just been taking a break; we’ve been behind the scenes, doing the “heart work” that makes the Komenda Project possible.

We’ve been listening, researching, and talking to local schools in Ghana to identify one of the biggest—yet most overlooked—barriers to a girl’s education.

What we found was sobering: Many of our bright, ambitious students are forced to skip school for several days every single month. Not because they don’t want to learn, but simply because they lack access to basic menstrual products.

Period poverty shouldn’t stop a girl’s potential. We’ve spent our hiatus building a plan to change this. By the end of March, we are launching a major initiative to distribute menstrual kits and provide health education to ensure that no girl has to choose between her dignity and her diploma.
We’re so excited to be back and even more excited to have you on this journey with us. Stay tuned—we’re going to need your help to make this happen.

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Chinwe Onwubolu 🕊️

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear board member, Chinwe Onwubolu, who served The Komenda Project with unwavering dedication as our Programs and Compliance Lead.

Chinwe was more than a team member — she was a guiding light, a passionate advocate, and a true force for good. Her commitment to ensuring integrity, structure, and meaningful impact in all our initiatives shaped the very core of what The Komenda Project is today.

Through her leadership, countless children and youth in Ghana experienced hope, education, and opportunity. Her attention to detail, fierce compassion, and deep belief in justice made her a cornerstone of our mission — and a beloved friend to us all.

Though Chinwe’s presence can never be replaced, her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every project she guided, and every heart she inspired.

💔 We are better because she was with us.
🕊️ Rest peacefully, Chinwe. Thank you for everything.

Did you know just $10 can help us provide school supplies for a child?

Many students walk into class every day without basic tools to learn. With your help, we can change that.
