Join us for a tune session tonight (Tuesday, October 13) at the AlgomaTrad Centre in the Main Hall, starting at 7:00pm! We'll start out slow, and pick up the pace around 8:00, continuing until about 9:00pm.

Folks of all ages and skill levels are welcome. The sessions are focused on creating a comfortable atmosphere for learning and sharing music together, along with offering inspiration and support.

Anyone is welcome to come and play, or listen and enjoy from a cozy spot on the couch. We will have hot water on for tea, along with some snacks - feel free to bring along snacks to share, if you'd like.

After this, we will return to Mondays - join us on Monday, October 26 for the next one!

There’s an acoustic song sharing evening happening this coming Monday, Oct. 5th at 7pm at the AlgomaTrad Centre. All are welcome.

Thank you Rodney Martin for capturing such a magical moment at AlgomaTrad the evening of our last dance of the summer (please see new FB cover photo). This captures the intersection of music, dance and one of the most passionate parts of AlgomaTrad…sustainable, organic gardening, feeding people, taking care of the land. We are grateful for our privilege and for the bounties that nourish us!

Tonight (Monday, September 21) is the first Acoustic Night of the fall, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the AlgomaTrad Centre (1249 F&G Line Rd). At Acoustic Nights, we invite you to pull up a chair in the circle, where we take turns sharing songs, and joining in with others as they play. AlgomaTrad Acoustic Nights blend the ideas of jam sessions and traditional song circles, bringing folks of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels to play, sing, or simply listen and enjoy a cup of tea together. This is a great opportunity for local musicians to share music with others, in an informal and welcoming atmosphere - no experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome, including drop-ins, but we always love to know if you’re planning to come!

We can't wait for the first community dance of the fall/winter season! Join us Saturday, September 19 at 7pm, in the AlgomaTrad Centre Pavilion (1249 F&G Line, St. Joseph Island) for an evening of music, dancing, fun, and community! Come to dance, or simply enjoy the live traditional music provided by wonderful local musicians.

Caller Rodney Martin will lead everyone through beginner-friendly dances, including contras, ceilis and square dances that are great for folks of all ages. Everyone is welcome! Later on in the evening, we'll dive into some more challenging dances to keep developing our skills.

Suggested admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students (ages 13+), and children 12 & under free. This helps to cover the costs associated with hosting a dance – we truly appreciate your support!

Feel free to bring snacks to share as well! If you decide to bring something along, please label it with ingredients to help out folks with dietary restrictions/allergies.

Mark your calendars! We have monthly dances scheduled throughout the fall and winter: October 17, November 7, December 5, January 2, and February 6. All dances start at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Our heartfelt gratitude to the AlgomaTrad community, fabulous staff and dedicated volunteers for contributing to a beautiful camp week. There is so much to be grateful for, and it’s really about the love, joy and connection that were part of the camp experience. Wow, the dances, the magical late night song and tune sessions, impromptu Irish sessions, sweet interactions between children, adults, and everyone in between, the wonderful humour, tearful emotion from moments of beauty, a crankie of a beautiful song by Claude Méthé & Dana Whittle, community arts creations, tunes learned, songs arranged, the incredible FOLKEMON cards by Ian Bell that blew up as one of the most successful camp phenomenas, and the food, oh my, the food!! Camp direction by Shifra Cooper and Kyle Burghout was amazing and fun! Families were the coolest! A big shoutout to Tori Grasley for all the incredible hard work and dedication! The beautiful photos and videos that have been posted are beautiful. Thank you for sharing these!

With all of this to feed our souls, this past week has also been a tough one of processing loss. We are heartbroken over the loss of one of our beloved and beautiful community members and dear friends, Marigje Cooper. Marigje and Paul have been passionately engaged as learners, players, annual family campers, helpers, supporters, friends and enthusiasts for many years. She very much loved the AlgomaTrad slow tune sessions, which we will continue to host and to cherish, in her memory. We’ll try to open up these sessions virtually for anyone who wants to participate (please let us know). Marigje will be hugely missed. Our sincerest condolences go out to Paul and to Paul & Marigje’s family...holding you close in our hearts.
We are heartbroken for our dear friends (and beautiful volunteer AlgomaTrad staff), Laurie Cu***ng and John Mayberry, as they lost their beloved son, Mark, this past week. Keeping John and Laurie, and daughter, Anna in our hearts throughout this time of profound grief and loss. Our deepest condolences to Laurie, John, Anna, and community of friends and family.
