It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend! Our 8-week long Youth Arts Program, supported by a grant through Algoma Community Foundation, came to a close with a final gathering, delicious lunch, celebration and sharing/presentation of what was created during those 8 weeks. Inspiring artist/mentors included Lucia Laford, Kyrstiana Kylar Bourdage, Nelson McKay, and Campbell Woods. Huge thanks goes out to Tori Grasley for taking on the coordinator’s role, and to Julie Corcoran for spending so much time in the kitchen helping to prepare food. The group of youth, about 20, were the sweetest young people…we truly enjoyed our time spent with each of them.
A bunch of amazing volunteers, friends and supporters of AlgomaTrad came by to help put up the 30 x 40 tent canopy…thank you Janise Garside & Rodger, Mary Collier, Max, Michael Fischer, Bob Pinder, Julie Corcoran, Rodney Martin, Isabelle Michaud, Brandon Grasley, Tori Grasley, Michelle & Hugh Devon, Matthew Forster, Peter Welles, Fred & Heather Pepper…we couldn’t have accomplished this without you! Garden boxes were weeded too, and the large 30 x 100 garden tarp removed and folded up, ready for planting! Following the workbee, we shared a beautiful potluck supper, thank you everyone for contributing and taking part in this communal meal!
To top off the day, we held our monthly community contra/ceili dance, and what a dance it was!! Thanks Rodney Martin for calling the dances and making is so much fun, and thanks Tori, Julie, and Jenna for your volunteer time to help make the evening special. Thank you Raymond Schryer for being our featured fiddle player, and thanks to all the fiddlers who joined in! So many of the 120 participants brought snacks too, so, again, much appreciation.
STAY TUNED FOR SUMMER DANCES, CONCERTS, TUNE SESSIONS, ACOUSTIC NIGHTS, and HERITAGE ARTS WORKSHOPS! CAMP is full, but the annual, amazing Staff Concert Extravaganza will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12th!
