Wildsight Golden’s 2nd Community W**d Pull was a great success. The event was held at the Confluence Park with support from the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS) and 7 hard working volunteers! Attendees pulled an impressive 13 bags of invasive species including Spotted Knapw**d, Bull Thistle, Canada Thistle, and Mullein from the surrounding area within two hours.

After all their hard work, our volunteers enjoyed a free and delicious burrito from Reposados as a well-deserved thank-you for their efforts! We’re incredibly grateful to all the dedicated volunteers who joined us, and especially to Lara from CSISS for sharing her expertise and knowledge about invasive species.
Thank you again to everyone who came out to support our local biodiversity, help protect our natural spaces, and keep Golden beautiful!

Think twice before releasing a goldfish into the wild! 🫧🐟

That small goldfish from the pet store can become a much bigger problem when released into lakes, streams, or ponds.

Goldfish can grow to over 60 pounds in the wild and may live for up to 25 years. They can reproduce rapidly and have few natural predators.

Once established, goldfish can spread to surrounding water bodies and impact native aquatic ecosystems. Their feeding behaviour stirs up sediment, creating muddy, turbid water that can degrade habitat needed for native fish reproduction and aquatic plants. They also compete with native fish for food, reducing aquatic biodiversity.

🚫 Never release a pet into the wild.
🚫 Do not use live fish as bait.
🚫 Do not flush unwanted fish down the toilet.
🚫 Do not dump aquarium debris into waterbodies or storm sewers, even if no fish are present.

If you can no longer care for your goldfish, re-home it or contact a pet store, aquarium, or local animal/wildlife organization for advice.

💚 Keep pets out of the wild. Protect our native species and aquatic ecosystems.

Fridays in the Field! 🥾🌿🦺

Finding high-priority invasive plants might be a "two thumbs down," but spending the day in the field with the team pulling w**ds is always a thumbs up! There's plenty of laughter, muddy waders, and the rewarding feeling of helping protect the beautiful CSRD from invasive plants.

Salmon Arm, we are partnering with our friends at Shuswap Trails and the Shuswap Naturalist Club for our final community w**d pull of the summer! 🌿🪏

Join CSISS for an urban environmental stewardship event to tackle Himalayan Balsam and Greater Celandine along the Cress Creek trail on Wednesday, August 12th. The riparian zone around Cress Creek is in need of our help to remove these invasive plants!

We will be meeting at the northwest trailhead entrance at 10:00 AM. Bring yourself, weather appropriate clothing, and a friend who likes to protect our urban green spaces. Tools, gloves, snacks, and refreshments will be provided! No experience is necessary to join in for this event, but we would love if you RSVP'd by either sending us an email ([email protected]) or by using the Facebook Event page! 🌞

Wildsight Golden will be hosting a Community W**d Pull on Thursday August 6th 5-7pm at Confluence Park. Join us in helping remove invasive species such as Spotted Knapw**d, Western Goatsbeard, and Common Burdock.
As a Thank You to all participating community members, we'll finish the evening with delicious Reposados burritos provided by Wildsight Golden!
