The 2026 Western Painted Turtle season was the biggest one yet for Turtle Conservation Revelstoke - our dedicated team of volunteers conducted monitoring, removed vegetation, and installed netting to protect against predators. The team also put out signs and engaged community members in reporting sightings.

Despite TCRs ongoing efforts, as summer tourism grows in Revelstoke the chance of road mortalities increases. This means that it is even more important to slow down on Airport Way during nesting season in June and July, and spread the word with visitors.

As Western toadlets begin their first migration to their fall and winter habitats, another Toad Watch season is drawing to a close!

Beginning in April, our volunteers spent a collective 14 nights collecting data and helping adult Western toads safely make their way to the marsh to breed.

With the help of students from Revelstoke Secondary School, the Glacier Adventure Stewardship Program, and many dedicated volunteers, we also filled two new toad culverts with sand to make them more toad-friendly.

Last week, we wrapped up the season with two volunteer meetups to help the tiny toadlets safely cross the road as they made their first journey up the mountain to their fall and winter habitat.

We’re incredibly grateful for our amazing community and everyone who gave their time and energy to help out Revelstoke’s Western toads!

A special thank you to Revelstoke Garden Centre, EMCON, Revelstoke Community Foundation, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, and ICBC for your generous support. Together, we’re helping protect Western toads for years to come. 💚🐸

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!

Today, we, as visitors on this land, are taking an extra moment to express our gratitude and celebrate those who were here before us. In Revelstoke, we are privileged to reside on the unceded and ancestral territories of the First Peoples of the Okanagan region: the Sinixt, the Syilx Okanagan, Secwépemc, and the Ktunaxa Peoples. We are reminded that this land holds the stories of these Peoples who remain invaluable leaders in environmental stewardship and that we all have a responsibility to protect the ecological community that we are a part of.

It’s Western Painted Turtle Nesting Season! This means female turtles are travelling out of the marsh in search of a place to nest and sometimes end up crossing roadways to get there. They are most commonly seen in the late afternoons into the evenings on warm days from Mid-May to Mid-June. Please keep an eye out for turtles and drive carefully along Airport Way!

If you do spot a turtle, you can fill out the google form in our bio to report the sighting and refer to the following infographic for what to do! Unless they are in imminent danger, please do not pick them up. Instead, give them space or help encourage them to safety by walking behind them and ushering them in the way they were initially heading. Unfortunately, if the turtle is guided or carried to the wrong side, they will make their way back and have to cross the road again to get to where they were going.

Calling all nature and turtle enthusiasts! Come celebrate World Turtle Day in Revelstoke on Saturday May 23rd, with a turtle talk and community BioBlitz at Williamson Lake.

Starting at 2pm, there will be a short talk on our resident Western Painted Turtles and local conservation efforts. Everyone is then welcome to participate in our community BioBlitz around the Lake, where we take photos of the different plant and animal species and upload them to the iNaturalist app. No experience is required and volunteers will be on site to help, we just ask that you download iNaturalist on your phone in advance and sign our online waiver (link in bio).

Please come prepared for time outdoors, this event will be taking place rain or shine!

This time of year we see large numbers of Western Toads and juvenile Western Painted Turtles crossing Airport Way south of Revelstoke, and unfortunately many are killed by vehicles.

To help reduce these mortalities, we are currently fundraising to fill two newly installed underpasses with natural materials and directional fencing. If you’d like to support this work, please consider donating via the link in our bio!

We’re also asking drivers to slow down, stay alert, and avoid nighttime travel along Airport Way where possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Earth Day Outdoor Movie Night!

It ended up being perfect weather, and the screen didn’t blow away 💨 A big thank you to for supporting the event, and to everyone who donated - all the proceeds from the movie night will support our ongoing efforts to protect the endangered Inland Temperate Rainforest 🌲

Join us in the park for an Earth Day screening of Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest!

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with an outdoor screening of this classic animation. Please bring camp chairs and blankets, we will have popcorn and refreshments available to purchase.

Entrance by donation with all proceeds supporting our ongoing conservation work in the Inland Temperate Rainforest.

Please keep an eye on this post, as in the case of bad weather we will pivot to an indoor venue. Fingers crossed!

Join on May 2 for a one-day guided tour of the Upper Arrow Lakes, near Revelstoke, to learn about the Columbia River’s history, ecology, and some of the challenges it faces.

We’re living through a historic moment in the Columbia Basin. Especially with ongoing efforts to modernize the Columbia River treaty, reshape dam operations, and reintroduce ocean-going salmon. Now is the time to understand the issues and impacts of this watershed that connects us.
