COMMUNICATION

TIP: Listen to Understand, Not Just to Respond

Great communication isn’t only about speaking well. It’s also about listening well.

When someone is speaking:
👂 Give them your full attention
💭 Listen for the meaning behind their words
❓ Ask thoughtful questions
⏳ Avoid preparing your response while they are still talking

👉 At your next conversation or meeting, focus on listening before responding.

Feature Friday:

Grammar in 60 Seconds:

“Could of” vs. “Could have”
This is a great one because “could of” sounds correct when we say it aloud, but it isn't correct grammar.

Correct:
“I could have gone.”
“I should have called.”
“I would have helped.”

Not correct:
“I could of gone.”
“I should of called.”
“I would of helped.”
Why the confusion? When we say could have, should have, or would have quickly, the word have often sounds like “of.”

Quick tip: If you're talking about something that could, should, or would have happened, use have, not of.

PUBLIC SPEAKING
TIP: Slow Down and Use the Pause
One of the easiest ways to sound more confident is to slow down.
A short pause can:
✅ Emphasize an important point
✅ Give your audience time to absorb your message
✅ Help eliminate filler words
✅ Make you appear more confident and composed
🎤 Toastmasters Tip: Don’t be afraid of silence. A well-placed pause can be more powerful than another sentence.
👉 Try adding one deliberate pause during your next speech.
