On June 3, 2019, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released its final report, Reclaiming Power and Place, along with 231 Calls for Justice.

The report laid bare the ongoing violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people across Canada, while also highlighting the strength, leadership, and resilience of survivors, families, and communities who carried these truths forward.

More than five years later, families, advocates, and communities continue to call for urgent action and accountability. The Calls for Justice are not recommendations, they are legal and moral imperatives rooted in human rights, Indigenous rights, and the lived realities of those impacted by violence.

At the Moose Hide Campaign, we believe ending gender-based violence requires all of us to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action in our communities. This work must continue beyond moments of recognition and remain grounded in respect, responsibility, and care.

We encourage everyone to take time to read the report, learn the Calls for Justice, and support the ongoing work being led by Indigenous families, survivors, and communities.

Our beliefs and assumptions matter. When supporting someone impacted by trauma or abuse, the language we use can either open the door to healing or reinforce harm. If we want people to feel safe sharing their truth, we must lead with empathy. Wanna learn how? Check out REAL talk at www.realtalksk.eventbrite.ca

Let this be a time of celebration, remembrance, and recommitment to truth and reconciliation.

We especially invite you to mark June 21 - National Indigenous Peoples Day - with ceremony, learning, and solidarity

⚠️ Content note: Includes coercive control and experiences of gender-based violence in rural and agricultural. Please take care while reading and engage in a way that feels safe for you.

A recent Women in Ag Magazine feature sheds light on coercive control, a form of abuse that is often invisible, but deeply impactful.
Rather than physical violence, coercive control involves ongoing patterns of manipulation, criticism, and restriction that can limit a person’s independence and sense of self. In rural and agricultural settings, these dynamics can be even harder to recognize due to isolation and close community ties.
Raising awareness is an important step toward creating safer, more supportive environments across agriculture.

Sometimes the most important conversations are also the hardest ones to start.

Many people want to support someone who may be struggling — they just don’t always know what to say, what signs to look for, or how to help without making things worse.

In partnership with Abridge Consulting, our upcoming workshop, Start the Conversation: Su***de Awareness in Our Community, is designed to help build confidence in having those conversations within agricultural and rural communities.

Together, we’ll explore practical ways to recognize distress, respond with care, and strengthen support across our communities.
