Museums Association of Saskatchewan Working to advance and promote more than 250 Saskatchewan Museums.

Museums Association of Saskatchewan is a non-profit, collective organization of over 200 member museums and a total membership of over 400 (including individuals and associates). The Association is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors representative of the museum community. The board develops policy and staff are responsible to the membership for programs and services that contribute to the advancement of museums.

Apply for the 2026 Museum Improvement Micro Grant for Community Museums!

Application Deadline: May 1st, 2026

Project Start Date: June 1st, 2026
Project End Date: November 20th, 2026

The Museums Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) is pleased to announce that the Government of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport (PCS) is providing funding support to the Saskatchewan museum sector with $47,000.00 to be used to assist with technology upgrades, minor accessibility costs, and support for the development and delivery of programming that contributes to the access, cultural impact, and service to their communities.

The Museum Improvement Micro Grant for Community Museums will provide successful applicants with a grant of up to $2,000.00. The applications will be adjudicated based on funds available and merit of the applicants’ outline of how the funds will benefit the mandate and goals of the organization. All projects will be considered for funding, prioritizing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA), and how it supports the engagement of activities that contribute to community wellbeing.

All expenses must fall within the indicated start and end date of the grant. Expenses incurred before or after the grant period will not be eligible.

In this course, you will learn what collections management is, and what activities are involved in it. The course also examines collections management policy and procedures, the laws and regulations affecting the collecting, safeguarding, and legal deaccessioning/repatriation of objects, and the collection documentation process.

Instructor: Julie Jackson
Julie Jackson (Western Development Museum) is a Collections Manager with over 20 years of professional experience in museum collections. She holds an MA in Museum Studies from Newcastle University and has worked and volunteered with museums across the Prairies. Her practice focuses on the care, documentation, and stewardship of museum collections, with an emphasis on practical, standards-based collections management.

You may have heard that Parks Canada will be taking the Canadian Register of Historic Places offline in spring 2026. The existing database is at the end of its technological life. There is no plan for its replacement.

Together with the Museums Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) we have written a letter to The Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature and The Honourable Wade Grant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to express our serious concerns about the decommissioning of the Register, and the loss of this data to the public.
