May 24- World Schizophrenia Day

Today is World Schizophrenia and Psychosis Awareness Day. Psychotic disorders, which include schizophrenia, are mental illnesses that affect a person’s way of understanding and interacting with the world around them.

When someone experiences psychosis, they may have intrusive thoughts or false beliefs, hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech, or become disconnected from reality. Psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia are some of the most misunderstood and stigmatized illnesses in our society, but it can be treated and, with the right care and supports, people can recover. It's that time of the year again where we get to celebrate our amazing nurses! Happy Nurses week!
Phoenix is lucky to continue to have a number of nurses including RPNs, LPNs, RNs, and many groups of future nurses. Our team of nurses bring joy, education, and excellent patient care to our residents, and we appreciate them every day!

National Nursing Week 2026 takes place from Monday, May 11, to Sunday, May 17. This year’s theme is The Power of Nurses to Transform Health.

Phoenix held our annual red dress day walk today, which will be followed with a memorial feast. Every year we gather to hang a red dress at each of our four locations in order to honour the lives of missing and murdered indigenous women.

Happy Social Work Day to all of our wonderful social workers here at Phoenix!

Today is World Social Work Day, and it also takes place during National Social Work Month - a time to recognize and celebrate the social work profession.

Across Canada, social workers show up every day to support individuals, families, and communities. They walk alongside people through some of the most difficult moments in their lives, advocate for access to resources and rights, and work to address the systemic barriers that affect health, safety, and wellbeing.

Social work is rooted in care, dignity, and a deep commitment to social justice. The profession plays an essential role in strengthening communities and creating pathways toward equity and inclusion.

The Canadian Association of Social Workers celebrates social workers across the country and the impact they make in the lives of people and communities every day.

Today, and throughout National Social Work Month, we honour the dedication, compassion, and leadership of social workers.
