The Campion Grads RFC are pleased to present Dave “Smitty” Smith as the second of two 2025 Grads Hall of Fame inductees.

Dave started playing rugby in high school for the Thom Collegiate Grads, coached by the legendary Arnie Maier.

Dave played with various teams over the years including the Gamecocks 7s, Campion Grads men’s team and the Regina President’s Cup 15s. He toured with the Condors, Rogues, Highlanders, Moose Jaw, Oats, Krems, Minot Military 15, Winnipeg Wasps and the Edmonton Klan.

Dave’s athletic talent earned him a spot on the U19 provincial team. He continued to play representative rugby over the years including the Senior Men’s Provincial Team, the Prairie Fire, and the Canada Masters.

While Dave’s contributions to the Grads and rugby on field were tremendous, his contributions to the club and sport off the field were equally impressive.

As a coach, Dave influenced young players on several teams at all levels including the Thom Trojans, the U19 provincial team, Prairie Fire, mini rugby, and the Grads.

Dave contributed endless hours serving in several administrative roles over the years. He served on the Board of the Grads, Prairie Fire and on both the Regina Rugby Union and Sask Rugby Union.

Dave was a referee at the high school, club, and provincial levels. He has also provided colour commentary for various games, most recently the U 18 women’s and U20 men’s Manitoba/Saskatchewan final games for Koby 7s.

Dave also exemplifies the Grads values of Community, Class, and Commitment. Not only has been a longstanding leader and champion of rugby, but he is also one of the nicest and most lovable guys you could ever meet. We are grateful to have Smitty as a valued alumnus and continued supporter of the Grads.

Join us as we honour Dave at the Grads Annual Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction on November 10th.

The Campion Grads RFC are pleased to present Gary Harle as one of our two 2025 Grads Hall of Fame inductees.

Gary played for the Grads for 24 years, from 1982 to 2006. During that time, Gary served as captain of the Division 2 squad for several years, including a tour in Great Britain and Wales in 1987. Gary also played one season with the Prince Albert Gryphons, and a few games with the Saskatoon Wild Oats. Gary played occasionally for the Grads in following seasons to fill in when needed. His final game was played with the Grads in 2015.

Gary contributed tremendously as a referee spanning four decades, starting in the late 80s. He also served as an AR for many years, including when the Rugby Canada Super League was in operation.

Gary has volunteered more hours than we can count. He served in several administrative roles over the years, representing the Grads at the board meetings under at least seven different presidents. He then became the VP of Rugby and served in that role for 15 years.

At one point Gary showed an interest in scheduling and worked with the president at the time to co-schedule for his first couple years. He took over scheduling in 2006 and assigning referees in 2010. Gary has also coordinated referees and scheduling for the Ryback for many years and continues to do the same for the Koby 7s tournament.

Gary has served the rugby community in so many ways. From volunteering to help lay sod when the clubhouse was built, to continuing to manage referees and scheduling to this day. Behind the scenes he was washing jerseys, working bingos, and setting up the fields before every game. Gary is a humble and quiet leader who doesn’t take credit for the incredible amount of work he has put in over the years.

Gary is a true rugby guy through and through. There is no question that Gary exemplifies the Campion Grads Values of Community, Class and Commitment. His tremendous impact and legacy in rugby will forever be appreciated.

Join us in honouring Gary on November 10th at the Grads Annual Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction.
