How is Blossom still waiting for her forever family?!🌸

We truly can’t believe this sweet girl hasn’t been adopted yet!

Blossom is an approximately 3-month-old Collie/Shepherd mix with the perfect combination of brains, beauty, and sweetness. She loves being around her foster family and is the kind of dog who will form a loyal bond with her people. While she can be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up quickly and soon shows off her playful personality.

This smart girl is already doing well with house training, sleeps in her kennel at night, and is learning commands like sit and spin! Blossom lives with dogs, cats, and kids and does great with all of them!

Approx. DOB: March 1, 2026
Breed: Collie/Shepherd Mix (best guess!)
Gender: Female
Good with: dogs, cats, and kids
Training: Doing well with house training and sleeps in her kennel
Medical info: 2 vaccines, dewormed, and flea/tick treated
Adoption Fee: $300

To apply to adopt Blossom, please complete an adoption application on our website!🐾

🚨💔 Reminder: Animals Cannot Protect Themselves from Ticks. 💔🚨

The puppies pictured below are suffering from severe tick infestations. Tragically, two puppies from this litter did not survive. 💔 Unfortunately, this is something we see every year, and in most cases, it is entirely preventable.

Ticks can cause:
• Anemia (blood loss)
• Pain and infection
• Weakness
• Tick paralysis
• Seizures
• Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses
• Death in severe cases

✔️ Prevention is available:
• Bravecto provides approximately 3 months of protection with a single dose (typically $70 to $80, depending on the dog’s weight).
• NexGard is given once monthly (typically around $30 per dose, depending on the dog’s weight).
• Puppies must generally be at least 8 weeks old before receiving these products.
• Check your dogs daily, especially around the ears, face, neck, armpits, groin, and between the toes.

**If cost is a barrier, we encourage pet owners to put together a simple fundraiser on Facebook. Fellow community members are often happy to support those who are actively working to care for their animals!**

✔️ To remove ticks:
• Use tweezers or a tick remover.
• Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible.
• Pull straight out with steady pressure.
• Dispose of ticks in a sealed container with rubbing alcohol.

⚠️ Seek help immediately if:
• A dog or puppy is covered in ticks.
• The animal is crying out in pain.
• The animal is weak or having trouble walking.
• You cannot safely remove the ticks yourself.

Many veterinary clinics are willing to work with communities to improve access to tick prevention. If your community does not currently have a program in place, speak with your Animal Wellness Committee, leadership, or local veterinary clinic about bulk ordering options.

If you need help, ask early. Local rescues, humane societies, SPCAs, Animal Wellness Committees, and community members may be able to assist with education, transportation, supplies, or connecting you with veterinary care.

However, helping animals is a shared effort. Sustainable solutions require owners and caregivers to be actively involved in the care of their animals. No rescue or organization can solve the problem alone.

Lastly, if you see a dog suffering, even if it is not your own, please do what you can to help or connect the owner with someone who can.

No dog should suffer from a preventable tick infestation. 💔

A huge thank you to one of our former directors, Sherryl, along with our four wonderful volunteers Deb, Deb, Patricia, and Bob), for spending their Saturday night bartending at a wedding to help raise funds for the rescue!

Thank you for supporting our mission and the animals in our care. We are incredibly grateful for your time, generosity, and dedication. 🐾 🩵

Alright AOH fam, buckle up for this one. 🐀

**Edit: Much to our surprise, THEY’VE BEEN CLAIMED, and are going to the best home ever! But, we’re leaving the post up for entertainment purposes. Enjoy! 😂**

We know this is no laughing matter, and we absolutely do not condone the rash purchase of animals of any kind.

Just to clarify, we are still a dog rescue only.

And although the attached photos and the story to follow involve rodents, this will likely be the first and last time we ever speak of such creatures.

That said, we’re helping out longtime supporters of AOH who found themselves in a situation so ridiculous that we honestly couldn’t make it up if we tried.

This is not something we’d normally do, but the animals deserve a home, and their current homeowners deserve a little bit of emotional support.

So with that said…

Buckle up.
We have a story for you.

Imagine waking up on a nice Saturday morning, grateful it didn’t rain all weekend like the weather man promised it would.

Coffee? Check.
Quiet house? Check.

Then you walk downstairs to discover that sometime in the last 24 hours, your teenage daughter has somehow acquired…

TWO RATS.

Not a goldfish. Not a hamster. Not even a gecko.

Two whole rats.
Apparently luxury rats.

Because alongside these mystery rodents sits a fancy cage, blankets, toys, accessories, and a receipt showing approximately $325 worth of pet store purchases.

At this point your life flashes before your eyes.

You stare at the cage.
You stare at the receipt.
You stare at the rats.

And then you think:

“Nah. This has to be a prank.”

Then suddenly you remember…
Thursday.

You were downstairs on Thursday.
You distinctly remember smelling something weird.
You didn’t think much of it.
You certainly didn’t investigate.

But now?
Now you’re realizing these rats may not have arrived in the last 24 hours.

These rats may have been living in your house for over 72 hours.

Unbeknownst to you.

Just casually living there rent-free.

What have they even been eating?!

At this point you’re trying to find a reasonable solution.

Maybe the pet store will take them back?

Nope.

Because that’s when you learn the cage came from the pet store.

The rats did not.

The rats came from a “F R I E N D” (??!)

Which immediately raises several additional questions.

Questions that nobody currently has the emotional capacity to investigate in a calm, rational manner.

So at approximately 10 PM, you and your husband sit on the couch in complete silence trying to process what is becoming your life.

After several minutes, you look at him.

He looks at you.

And somehow, you both say the exact same words at the exact same time:

“We are not sleeping with rats in this house.”

And that’s about as far as the conversation got.

Because nobody felt calm enough to have a real discussion with the teenager responsible for this situation.

So you both go to bed and collectively decide you’ll deal with it in the morning.

Well…

It’s morning.

The homeowners have now gathered enough courage to approach the cage.

Photos have been taken.

A profile has been drafted.

And we are now attempting to find a home for these creatures before everyone involved requires therapy.

🐀 RAT PROFILE #1 & #2 🐀

Names: Intruder 1, Intruder 2
Age: Unknown
Breed: Standard Issue Rat
S*x: Grey but haven’t gotten close enough to confirm
Background: Acquired from a friend. Where the friend acquired them remains a mystery.
House Training: We hope none.
Temperament: Existing.
Favourite Activities: Creating household-wide panic and existential crises.
Personality:
From our extensive 12-hour observation period, they appear to be ratting appropriately.
Special Skills: Living in a house for multiple days without the homeowners knowing.

Comes With:
✔ Fancy cage
✔ Toys
✔ Blankets
✔ Accessories
✔ Approximately $325 worth of supplies
Adoption Fee: Please just take them.

To be completely honest, we think these homeowners might even pay someone to take them.

Reason for Rehoming:
• Homeowners know nothing about rats.
• Homeowners did not approve a rat purchase.
• Homeowners are scared of rats.
• Homeowners would like to return to the version of reality where they did not own rats.
• Homeowners are still processing recent events.

In all seriousness, these rats appear healthy and deserve a home with someone who knows and enjoys rats.

If that’s you, please send us a message.

Let’s help this petrified family out before somebody discovers a third rat and we all have an aneurysm.

Please share! 😊
