“You guys are an animal rescue firm and don’t have anyone available and have to find volunteers??” 🫤
Yes. That was the caller’s reaction when they learned we had to find a volunteer to respond.
And honestly, we completely understand the confusion.
When you call the WRSOS WildLine, you’re calling a professional wildlife rescue organisation. What you don’t see behind that call is a provincial network of volunteers who use their own vehicles, give their own time and often cover their own fuel to get wildlife where it needs to go.
This caller was frustrated that they had to wait while we found someone available.
But then they learned what that actually meant.
A volunteer was giving up her time, using her own vehicle and driving over 200km to help an injured Common Nighthawk get to a licensed rehabilitator.
The caller ended up offering $20 toward her fuel.
Sometimes it only takes a moment to see what happens behind the phone call.
Wildlife rescue happens because someone is willing to go. And across Saskatchewan, those someones are our volunteers.
