Our friends at the Downtown Community Association are working hard to get their organization off the ground and are putting on a free end of summer BBQ this Saturday afternoon at Central Park South.

Hey Folks! The Cathedral Community Clean-Up is coming up on September 19! Get out in the community and spend a morning making Cathedral more awesome.

Last year, Clean-Up day ended up being pretty damp which, I know, doesn't exactly sell it. But the folks who got together to haul garbage out of our neighbourhood's back alleys had a fantastic time. It was one of those situations where a little adversity led to some real Cathedral camaraderie.

So join the fun this year and make some connections with your neighbours.

Maybe the weather will be awesome?

And, hey, if you have a truck and can bring it along, that'd be a huge help. We never have enough trucks for all the stuff what needs hauling. We can reimburse the truck-havers' gas with gift certificates!

Hey Folks! We have a bunch of FREE trial classes coming up at the Cathedral Neighbourhood Centre. Are you interested in getting into a fitness class — like Tai Chi, Yoga or Zumba — but not sure what's the best for you? Try out a class before you commit to a full program with these Cathedral Village Community Assn classes.

New Cathedral Village Voice is back from the printer. Inside: tour of the Holy Rosary Cathedral spires, safe water petition, save the Early Learning Centre, free poetry, fall program guide, urbanist reading list for autumn, school trustee report, Artesian what's happening, tributes to Hillary Ryder and Ken Mitchell.

The issue will start hitting doorsteps this weekend.

UPDATE on the scam story…
The scammers were using a Jotform to harvest registration information from the crafters they've been emailing. We have contacted Jotform and they have disabled the form. We recognize that this does not stop the scammers from setting up another Jotform or using some other online form service to backstop their scamming efforts.
If you receive an email suggesting you sign up for a CVCA event that looks sus, let us know. And if a solicitation email is sending you to a site like Jotform and not to the CVCA website, don't click it! That's a scammer!

SCAM EMAIL ALERT!!
Crafters! Apparently, one of our regular Cathedral Holiday Craft Market vendors received this DESPICABLE SCAM EMAIL!!!

The main tip off that this is fake is that the email address is "cathedravillages" — ie, with no terminal "L" on cathedral and a pluralizing "S" on village.

Also, neither Linda nor I would ever start an email with frickin "We hope this message finds you well." Blech. But that's a more subtle tell.

Anyway, that email is not from us!!!!

In fact, we are not reaching out to vendors to get them to sign up for spots in the Holiday Craft Market at this moment because THE CRAFT MARKET IS SOLD OUT!!!!

Also, we are taking applications and waiting-list sign-ups through our website. If you haven't applied online, then you won't be getting emails from us.

But this scam email, man… they're becoming really sophisticated & they seem to be targeting us specifically if they're generating gmail accounts with something close to our name as a handle.

Please, BE VERY CAREFUL OUT THERE!!! Seems like there are dirty-dog scammers behind every bush trying to trick you out of your hard earned crafter-bucks.

If you have any concerns that you may have been contacted by a scammer or have been actually scammed by a scammer, give us a call! Phone our office directly. (You can look up the Cathedral Village Community Association phone number… we're in the phone book & online. I'm so paranoid at the moment I'm reluctant to even mention our phone number in this post for fear it'll… I dunno… summon a Scammer Demon who'll harvest our phone number along with my soul.)

And yeah, if you get one of these emails, get a screen shot and send it along.

And again… THE CATHEDRAL HOLIDAY CRAFT MARKET IS SOLD OUT!!! You can sign up to our waiting list on our website. We will never sell vendor spots in Facebook comments. And watch out for sketchy emails from sketchy jerks.

They're everywhere, it seems.

The CVAF RUMMAGE SALE is coming up September 26 from 9:30am to 3pm. It's like Facebook Markeplace but IN PERSON! If you have stuff you want to contribute, let us know at 306.569.8755. All money raised at the Rummage Sale supports the Cathedral Village Arts Festival.

I know summer is still in full swing so maybe it's a little early to be thinking about the Cathedral Community Cleanup coming this fall. But consider this a Save-The-Date for September 19. We're going to need volunteers — and especially volunteers with trucks — to help us tidy up Cathedral's alleyways! If you want to get a jump on volunteering, email [email protected].
