Heavy on our minds are the persisting horrors of violence, inequity, environmental destruction and an endless stream of devastations that drench headlines and social media. While the temptation to disengage from reality is ever-present, Sue Bland’s exhibition Rise Up! Rise Up! balances grief, rest, humour and joy necessary for sustained resistance. Taking inspiration from birds -the arbiters between realms of both earth and sky, body and spirit, practical and visionary, her exhibition embodies the importance of acknowledging present realities while simultaneously imagining a just and loving world; the world we want to live in.

Through showcasing flocks of overlapping vibrant birds, each collaged from a range of different delicate rice papers, gathering with humans equally as colourful and diverse, Sue showcases a mounting necessity for community. It is only with community that we can emerge amidst destruction and thorns, to cultivate a garden of hope and joy.

People around the world are boycotting Israeli products protesting its illegal annexations, levelling of Gaza, killing of 100,000 inhabitants, apartheid policies and blatant disregard for international human rights.

Regina's 13th Ave Cathedral Safeway had a visit June 30 from some local BDS activists tired of their store continuing to stock Israeli fruit, as are many other stores in Regina. The group delivered a petition with over 200 signatures from area residents who shop at the store, sometimes daily, and many for decades, and whose estimated purchases in the store total at least $76,000/ month.

They met with junior management as senior management was occupied. They presented the petition and a letter asking Safeway to stop carrying Israeli fruit, and that the boycott message be taken up their corporate chain. The group plans further action at the store in the fall if this polite, but overwhelming, community request is ignored.

*Applications now open! RYLI Civic Youth Fellowship*

One does not have to look far to see the extent to which harmful ways of engaging politics are impacting communities across Regina.

The Regina Youth Leadership Institute (RYLI), in association with PSR, is excited to announce the launch of our Civic Youth Fellowship: an opportunity for youth and community organizers to come together, reflect on the sort of politics we need in this moment, and build collectively.

Accepted fellows will be asked to pay a Fellowship Commitment Deposit that operates on a sliding scale ($25/$50/$100), depending on their respective circumstances. Financial circumstances should not serve as a barrier to participation, but contributions are welcome.

This one-of-a-kind, hand-stitched and hand-dyed leather bag was made by local leather crafter Brad Olson. He created this purse as a way to show solidarity with Palestinian people. All proceeds from the raffle go to support the work of Palestine Solidarity Regina.

Tickets are $5 each or three for $12, and can be purchased by e-transfer to [email protected]. The winner of the draw will be announced on SUNDAY MAY 24!

Join us on MAY 30th for a Keffiyeh Ribbon Skirt Solidarity Workshop, hosted in partnership with The Comeback Society and Palestine Solidarity Regina//Art for Palestine. Spots are limited. Priority is given to Metis, First Nations, Palestinians, and folks from SWANA/Levant regions.

All supplies are provided. However, if you have some special cloth or ribbon that you want to include in your skirt design, please bring it.
 
This workshop is hosted by Melanie Monique Rose (Metis Nation Saskatchewan) & Alicia Morrow ( Peepeekisis Cree Nation), both recipients of the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards for Indigenous Resurgence in Action (2022 & 2025).

“CHECKPOINT” is a deeply personal auto-ethnographic play that reflects my own journey of growing up in the Middle East and eventually building a life in Canada. The play follows my main character as she cares for her father, who is battling dementia, prompting her to revisit memories of her homeland. Through this process, she seeks to answer critical questions: Why do we need to know where we are from? What is home without land? This one-woman show weaves together stories from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Russia, and Israel. It is a story born from my own experiences, hopes, and struggles—an attempt to preserve my cultural heritage, confront difficult truths, and find pathways toward healing and reconciliation.”

Rania Alharthi (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans theatre, film, sound installation, and dance. Based in Treaty 4 territory in Regina, SK, her work is deeply influenced by her cultural heritage and explores the complex intersections of diaspora and postcolonial identities. She previously worked as an independent artist across Palestine, Jordan, and Tunisia before immigrating to Canada in 2012. Rania’s writing journey began with screenwriting, culminating in a captivating six-minute script for CBC Gem. Her debut long play, Checkpoint, marks a significant milestone in her evolving artistic career.
