Today is International Geoethics Day, as part of Earth Science Week.

Ethical practice is fundamental to a thriving society. The decisions made by professionals can have lasting effects on people, communities, the environment, and future generations. Prioritizing ethics means considering those responsibilities alongside technical knowledge and professional obligations.

For engineers and geoscientists, ethical practice is not something to consider only when faced with a difficult decision. It should be part of how professionals approach their work, communicate knowledge, assess risks, and make decisions in the public interest each day.

It’s Earth Science Week! 🌎🪨

This year’s theme, “Critical Minerals for a Thriving Society,” highlights the essential role geoscience plays in helping us understand the mineral resources that support our technologies, infrastructure, and economy.

Geoscientists help us understand the Earth’s resources and the conditions in which they occur, while engineers apply that knowledge to help develop and use those resources responsibly.

Together, their expertise supports decisions that balance resource needs with environmental stewardship and the long-term interests of communities.
