An message on behalf of the RSAR Board of Directors:
***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Brian Walter Ward McDonald, a.k.a. Andy Smokes, who passed away on June 3rd, 2020 in Regina at the age of 42.
Brian was a long standing contributor to the LGBTQ2S community over the years. He was an avid volunteer over the years spending time volunteering with the Gay & Le***an Community of Regina (the GLCR) as a bartender, a supervisor and general manager of our local Q Nightclub & Lounge. He was a dually crowned Mr. Gay Regina and would have been celebrating his first decade celebration this year.
Within the ICS Brian has served our community as Imperial Grand Duke, as an Emperor, and above all he served as a mentor to so many Monarchs that succeeded him and was a cherished friend to so many.
Brian offered so much love to the ICS and to his LGBTQ2S community, enriching the lives of so many within our community with his kindness, his passion, and his sense of humor along the way. Through his encouragement and support we have seen so many new members thrive as a part of our ICS family.
He loved to take care of people. Brian always looked out for those in need and ready to support those he cared for. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for those he loved and was someone you could always rely on. He was full of honesty no matter the situation and was full of bravery to tell it like it was and do what needed to be done.
He loved his family, he loved his chosen family of friends. Brian was an avid animal lover, who built a loving family of many fur-babies that will greatly miss their dad.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Tammy and Carol Roche, his aunt Audrey Rockthunder, his uncles Wayne and Corey Ironchild and Rob Wapuchakoos alongside many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother whom he immensely cherished, Lorraine Stonechild; and his father Ward McDonald; brother Gerald Stonechild; and grandmother Flora Ironchild.
A private ceremony for family will be held at Muscowpetung First Nation. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held by his extended family at Q Nightclub & Lounge (the GLCR), date to be announced, a space Brian cherished and created many lifelong friendships and memories.
Our community has lost a shining star that has brought so much life, love and light into the lives of so many people. Brian McDonald brought out the best in those he had met, and always left them with the biggest smiles and fondest of memories.
He was a dad to his loving cats and dogs, he was a son, he was a brother, he was a mentor, he was a community leader, and above all he was a loving and loyal friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him, and will never be forgotten by his community that he proudly represented and served.
