Earlier this year MCoS' ICARE Program launched it's very first Youth Program.

Program Mentor from Regina Huda School, Kassandra Campbell reflected on her favorite part of being involved with the program, "Seeing the students grow over the process... Seeing them move from being learners and taking in information to now moving into action and them seeing what they can do and what the possibilities are. After I leave every session, I go back to school on such a high and I just keep gushing to everyone about it."

She has witnessed students who are typically more shy shift into confident and assertive students who are taking the lead on some really incredible projects in their schools.

There's one student in particular Kassandra has noticed and who has really found her passion for this work. "She'll carry this work with her for the rest of her life. She's only in grade nine so she has a lot years to do all sorts of really cool things!"

“Community is not only to live in … you have to build it around yourself and share cultural backgrounds with each other,” said Ziyang Li, 2023 recipient of the Youth Leadership Award.

Three years on, Li noted that the award not only helped to recognize himself and his impact in the community, but that it helped him stay inspired and achieve his passions in the long term.

Today, Li has since been elected as Vice President of MCoS’ Board of Directors and serves as the Executive Director of the University of Regina’s Carilion newspaper.

“Receiving this award inspired me to strive further … [growing] my passion in community service, and volunteerism.”

“Without multiculturalism, our community will be only divided rather than connected. Multiculturalism is one of the most important things we need to build upon in Canada.”

The Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan’s Youth Leadership Award is presented to a person under 29 years and under who’ve made promising contributions to multiculturalism in Saskatchewan. Nominations are OPEN until SEPTEMBER 15!
