Did you know Saskatchewan produced more than 24% of the world's uranium in 2025?

Last year, Saskatchewan uranium mines produced 15,610 tonnes of uranium and generated $3.2 billion in sales.

As demand for reliable, low-carbon energy continues to grow around the world, Saskatchewan is helping power the future while supporting jobs and economic growth here at home.

Mining plays key role in the Saskatchewan economy by providing gainful employment to many people throughout the province.

Potash companies operating in Saskatchewan paid $1.2 billion in total payroll to direct employees last year, which contributed to an annual salary for employees in the mining industry of $155,169 - 2.3 times higher than the average annual salary of Saskatchewan workers.

Did you know that mining is one of the safest industries in both Saskatchewan and in Canada?

In 2025, Saskatchewan's overall average Lost Time Injuries (LTI) per one million hours worked was about 8.3. In contrast, members in SMA's Metallic Minerals Section recorded an overall Lost Time Injury (LTI) rate of 3.4 per one million hours worked - much lower than the provincial average!

wrapped up today with two last activities - tours of the Saskatchewan Research Council's Rare Earth Processing Facility and Pipe Flow Technology Centre™, followed by a GeoRobotics workshop facilitated by Sask Code.

Over the last seven days, the teacher participants in this year's GeoVenture program have travelled from Castle Butte near the Saskatchewan-Montana border, all the way to the Athabasca Basin near the Saskatchewan-North West Territories border, visiting a variety of mining-related facilities, formations and mines along the way.

Congratulations to NexGen Energy Ltd. reaching this key milestone at their Rook I Project!

Uranium is one of 34 critical minerals and is essential for the operation of nuclear microreactors, including the SMRs that SaskPower is working to bring to Saskatchewan.

Currently, over 24% of global uranium production comes from Saskatchewan and operations like NexGen's Rook I Project have the potential to increase this percentage - supplying the world with the fuel it needs to prosper.

Orano Canada hosted for a tour of their high-grade uranium mill at McLean Lake to learn how uranium ore is processed.

Participants also had the opportunity to learn about Orano's patented SABRE Technology, based on hydraulic borehole mining.

After their tours for the day wrapped up, GeoVenture boarded their Rise Air flight back to Saskatoon - follow along to find out what the team is up to today!
