For more information on this important time of celebration and gratitude for rich and diverse Indigenous heritage and contributions, we suggest the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan webpage https://mcos.ca/events/indigenous-history/ or the Government of Canada webpage: https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1466616436543/1534874922512

While the RRLIP supports the community of Regina to be a more welcoming city for more recent newcomers, we also acknowledge the complex and often painful realities and ongoing legacies of how colonizers and settlers related to the Indigenous peoples living here since time immemorial - the first human inhabitants on these lands. We humbly and gratefully continue to work to foster truly good relationships between more recent newcomers and the diverse Indigenous groups and individuals who are surviving, reviving and (still in too few instances) thriving across Turtle Island ("North America"). In Treaty 4 territory, these are mainly nรชhiyawak/Cree, Nahkawininiwak/Saulteaux/Plains Ojibwe, Anishinaabeg, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota/Assiniboine, and the Mรฉtis.

Regina Public Library offers many free programs, including the one featured in this post. Flatbread is enjoyed in many cultures and kitchens around the world, as well as by Indigenous people right here on the prairies - and now more folks in Regina know how to make it!

See more free, fun and (sometimes) foody opportunities on the RPL Programs listing at https://reginalibrary.ca/attend/programs

For example, is your family going to one of two free, drop-in performances of "The Pigeon Gets a Puppet Show"?
1. tomorrow (May 28th) at 10 am at RPL Central Children's Library, or
2. this Saturday (May 30th) at 11 am in the RPL Central Film Theatre

Saskatchewan Safety Council supports the safety of *all* SK residents, through Career Safety Education (CSE), through research (see their new report on the risks of fatigue at work, home and behind the wheel: https://www.sasksafety.org/fatiguesurvey.html), and through many great training opportunities for all ages and situations - at work, home or play!

Regina area seniors, check out this SSC Mature Drivers Refresher Course coming up on June 5th, where older adults can brush up on their driving skills and knowledge of current SK road rules in a friendly and no-judgment learning environment. Contact Saskatchewan Safety Council to register or for more info.

Another example of SSC's great work in this community: Today the Saskatchewan Safety Council and their team of community volunteers are teaching hundreds of Regina teens how to stay safe at work, at their annual Cade Sprackman Safety Day event. This event started in Hudson Bay after the tragic and preventable loss of Cade's life in a workplace accident, and is now held in multiple communities across the province, helping to make thousands of young lives safer in SK workplaces.

Thank you, Saskatchewan Safety Council! Stay safe out there, SK!

Last one of these in Regina before our summer break is June 5.

Parents/caregivers of infants/children prenatal to 6 years old (older siblings welcome) - this is at noon today (May 25th - corrected from original post) and next Monday at the Regina Floral Conservatory, in partnership with Saskatchewan Perinatal Health Network
Please note: Parent Cafe will take a break over the summer and start again when the Regina Floral Conservatory reopens in September (see original post for more details).

The next Parent Cafe will be on Monday, May 24, 2026. We hope to see you there!

There are only two sessions of Parent Cafe left before the Regina Floral Conservatory closes for the summer. Parent Cafe will resume once the Floral Conservatory reopens in early September and the first session will be Monday, September 14.

Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted.

The goal of this initiative is to connect and grow support networks for parents who may be struggling with isolation prenatally or postpartum. What better place to grow these networks than at the Regina Floral Conservatory, surrounded by greenery and plants!

An SPHN Facilitator will be present at each session to hang out, chat, and answer any questions.

We will provide complimentary coffee and tea and you are welcome to bring your lunch or snacks to enjoy in our indoor garden.

If you are parent with children prenatal to 6 years old (older siblings welcome), we welcome you to Parent Cafe!
