This winter, we invite you to share your most inspiring nature-based words and songs to help One School One Farm support our ever growing network of schools and land partners.

Do you have a song or poem that you’d like to perform for a very receptive audience? Or maybe you can carry some of this beautiful summer energy to share with us in the middle of winter, writing something specifically for this event.

We’ll host an event in Saskatoon, and if there is a lot of interest throughout the province, we’ll host one in Regina or Prince Albert as well.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also known as Orange Shirt Day happens every year on Sept. 30. This day has become an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the history and ongoing impact of residential schools, while honouring the survivors, their families, and communities.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has several Calls to Action on Treaty education and Indigenous rights. On this National Day for Treaty and Reconciliation, the Office of the Treaty Commissioner asks people to take time to increase understanding of Treaty, the foundational documents for sharing lands and resources, as well as living together in harmony. Be part of the conversation, wear orange, and share what you learn.

Join the Prairie Food System Vision Network in welcoming The Resilience Institute (TRI) to learn what resilience looks like when we connect people, place, biodiversity, culture and practical action.

Laura Lynes, LLM, President/CEO; Cassidy Grimes, Climate Analyst & Coordinator and Brooklyn Rushton, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow - Transformative Adaptation Living Lab will be joining us to share how The Resilience Institute’s work is helping communities build resilience across the Prairies.

The session will include:

• an overview of The Resilience Institute (TRI);

• examples of how TRI works with communities to understand risks, strengthen resilience, and identify locally grounded solutions; and

• an introduction to the Stories of Resilience program highlighting stories from Jasper, Alberta, and Indigenous women from across the Prairies that demonstrate how storytelling can build connection and strengthen resilience before and after disasters.

Confronting Settler Colonialism: A Critical Dialogue

On September 30, Canadians observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters, to recognize the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, honour Survivors and the children who never returned home. The day provides an opportunity to learn, reflect, consider our responsibilities and take action toward reconciliation.

To honour this day, Prairie Food System Vision Network is convening Confronting Settler Colonialism: A Critical Dialogue, an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Canada’s colonial past and present and consider what decolonization and reconciliation can mean in practice as we work toward ‘people of the Prairie Region living together in right relationship with the land and one another, securing sufficient, culturally appropriate, healthy, and regenerative food systems for generations to come’.
