This Weekend we recognize the fathers and father figures who are part of Saskatchewan’s heavy construction industry.
From early mornings on site to long days supporting projects across the province, many of the men in our industry carry the dual responsibility of building infrastructure and supporting their families at home. Their dedication, work ethic, and example help shape both strong worksites and strong communities.
On Father’s Day, we extend our appreciation to the dads who lead by example, work safely, and return home each day to the people who matter most.
Wishing all fathers a safe and meaningful Father’s Day.

Working outdoors this summer?

Sun exposure is more than just a seasonal inconvenience. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can lead to sunburns, eye damage, skin cancer, and other serious long-term health effects.

According to Sun Smart Saskatchewan, outdoor workers are 2.5 to 3.5 times more likely than indoor workers to be diagnosed with skin cancer.

Protecting yourself starts before you arrive on site:

• Wear lightweight clothing that covers exposed skin
• Use a broad-brimmed hat whenever possible
• Wear eye protection with UV protection
• Apply sunscreen before heading outdoors

Small steps taken every day can help reduce long-term health risks and keep workers safe throughout the season.

Strong projects begin with strong training.
HCSAS instructor-led classroom courses are designed specifically for the realities of heavy construction in Saskatchewan. From Confined Space Entry and Rescue to Hoisting and Rigging and Intro to Hand Signals, our programs are built around practical application; not just theory.
Training does more than check a regulatory box. It increases confidence on site, improves communication between workers and supervisors, and reduces costly downtime caused by preventable incidents.
When workers understand procedures, equipment limitations, and safety expectations; productivity improves.

Work zones are active, high-risk environments where workers and heavy equipment operate just feet away from moving traffic.

Speed limits are reduced for a reason. Slowing down gives you more time to react, protects workers on site, and helps prevent serious incidents.

A few seconds saved is never worth the risk.

Slow down. Stay alert. Protect lives.

Training is not an expense; it is an investment in your business.

Companies that prioritize safety education experience:

• Fewer incidents and reduced downtime
• Stronger employee confidence and retention
• Improved compliance with regulatory requirements
• Enhanced reputation with clients and partners

Investing in safety training protects your workforce, strengthens productivity, and supports long-term business stability.

Building safely is building sustainably.

Work zones are active environments where workers, equipment, and traffic often operate in close proximity.
Reduced speed limits in construction zones are not suggestions; they are critical safety measures designed to protect workers and motorists alike. A few seconds saved by speeding can create significant risk for crews working only feet away from live traffic.
When approaching a work zone:
• Reduce your speed immediately
• Watch for signage and flaggers
• Be alert for changing lane patterns
• Maintain safe following distances
Every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day.
Slow down. Stay alert. Protect lives.

HCSAS was pleased to attend the WCB Compensation Institute and connect with inspiring speakers and industry leaders dedicated to improving workplace outcomes across Saskatchewan.

One highlight of the event was the opportunity to meet Kevin Rempel. Kevin shared his powerful story of resilience, recovery, and the mindset required to overcome adversity; a message that strongly aligns with the importance of supporting workers through injury, return to work, and long-term success.

Events like the Compensation Institute provide valuable insight into how employers can build stronger workplaces by focusing on safety, mental health, and effective claims management.

Thank you to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board for hosting this meaningful event and bringing together professionals committed to making a positive impact across our province.
