Meet the URRJC executive team🀩! Each day we’ll be introducing our amazing executive members and the important roles they play within our club. Today we have our club secretary Zainab!
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
My name is Zainab Ibrahim and I will be taking on the role of secretary of the UR restorative justice club. As the secretary of the club I am responsible for handling all communications, sharing meeting minutes and assisting with the coordination of events to promote restorative justice on and off campus.

I am currently in my fourth year pursuing a degree in human justice with a minor in political science. I came across restorative justice while taking a justice class in my 2nd year and my interst in it grew ever since. I am particularly drawn to restorative justice because it is a victim centred approach to justice which resonates with me as it prioritzes the needs of the victims. It pushes for the restoration of relationships and well being of those impacted by crisis while actively holding those responsible for the crisis accountable for their actions. For me it seems like a more thorough approach to justice because it seeks out the root cause of issues to eliminate it permanently rather than just focusing on surface level and short term solutions.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Hello, my name is Carter Jessop and I am the new UR Restorative Justice Club Co-President!

My role is to coordinate and organize club events, communications, and to oversee all club members. I will continue to drive this amazing club to new heights. I will continue to demonstrate how restorative justice can be applied to everyday life and seek to do so through consistent volunteering and networking events, as well as through foster strong, meaningful connections with our community, organizations, and other school clubs.

I have my Bachelor’s in Business administration and am pursuing a diploma in justice studies. I have a strong passion for restorative justice and have been a part of this club for over two years. I first learned about restorative justice through JS 319 with Dr. Asadullah and had become very interested in the topic. I was always told I have a very idealistic view when it came to justice and for a time it changed my perspective. However, restorative justice as an alternative embodies the idealistic views that I have and that is why I have chosen to pursue this position
