Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black Americans were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. While Juneteenth is an American holiday, it is recognized and celebrated around the world as a reminder that liberation is not a single moment in history but an ongoing struggle.

The legacy of slavery did not end with emancipation. Systems of racism, discrimination, and violence continue to impact Black communities today. Here in Canada, anti-Black racism remains present in our institutions, workplaces, schools, and communities. For Black q***r and trans people, these experiences are often compounded by homophobia and transphobia. When governments target 2SLGBTQ+ rights, inclusive spaces are challenged, and young people are denied the support they need, the effects are felt most heavily by those living at multiple intersections of oppression.

But liberation is not only resistance. It is community, joy, culture, and art. It is mutual aid, advocacy, education, and care.

This Juneteenth, The Q***r Agenda stands in solidarity with Black communities and recommits to building a future where Black q***r and trans people are safe, celebrated, and supported.

A future where dignity is protected, diversity is valued, and everyone has the freedom to live authentically because none of us are free until all of us are free.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

We celebrate trans lives, trans brilliance, and the radical act of existing in a world that too often tries to erase you.

Visibility is powerful, but it’s not enough on its own. Today and every day, we commit to showing up, not just in celebration, but in solidarity. That means protecting trans lives, amplifying trans voices, and actively challenging the systems that harm our community.

To our two spirit, trans, and nonbinary communities, we see you, we love you, and we stand with you, not just today but always. 🩵🩷🤍

Trans rights are under attack in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

When provinces use the notwithstanding clause to bypass the Charter and restrict the rights, dignity, and safety of trans and gender-diverse people, especially youth, the federal government has both the power and the responsibility to act.

We are calling on the Minister of Health to intervene and uphold Charter Protections across Canada.

Please sign the petition and share it widely.

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today, we honour and uplift every person living with a disability, whether visible, invisible, lifelong, temporary, chronic, neuro-divergent, or acquired disabilities.

This day reminds us that disability rights are q***r rights. Many in our community live at the intersection of identities, which means experiencing compounded discrimination, exclusion, and erasure.

When access to healthcare, benefits, housing supports, and community resources are under attack or neglected, it isn’t just disabled people who lose. Q***r and marginalized folks lose. Survivors of violence lose. Elders, elders with chronic illness, those living in poverty all lose when services are eroded.

Today we recommit to fight for accessible, affordable, dignified healthcare and social supports for all, to centre disabled voices in q***r spaces, to resist stigma, shame, and the idea that some lives matter more than others, and to build solidarity across disabilities, gender identities, sexualities, races, and classes.

Justice for disabled people is justice for all. Inclusion doesn’t weaken community but strengthens it. On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we see you, we stand with you, and we fight for you.

Today, we observe Red Ribbon Day/World AIDS Day.

We remember the lives lost to HIV/AIDS and stand with everyone living with HIV. This day is a reminder that the fight against stigma is ongoing and that real support means education, access, community care, and refusing discrimination in all its forms.

We honour the past, uplift the present, and commit to a future where dignity, safety, and care are guaranteed for all. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
