HISTORICAL SPOTLIGHT: CHARLES SPURGEON

Charles Spurgeon was not known as a “healing evangelist.” He was one of the most influential Baptist preachers of the 1800s and a powerful example of prayer-filled faith.

Spurgeon encouraged believers to pray boldly for those who were sick. He believed that God was compassionate and able to heal, while also recognizing the value of physicians and medicine. For Spurgeon, faith in healing was always held alongside trust in God’s wisdom and sovereignty.

His ministry reminds us that praying for healing isn’t limited to one stream or tradition within the Church. Christians throughout history have believed that we can bring our needs before a powerful and compassionate God.
