NEW Parks Pass hang tags available April 1!

As part of the Indigenous Peoples Open Doors Program and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Parks Canada and the Métis Nation within Alberta, new Parks Pass hang tags will now be available for Citizens with registration opening April 1 at 9 a.m. These passes allow Citizens to enter numerous national parks across Alberta for free and replace the need for daily permits, so our Citizens no longer need to self-identify at gate entrances.
Passes should arrive within one month of the application date. As the previous passes expire on March 31, Citizens can still present their Citizenship card at the entry gate or kiosk to receive a free daily entry permit until their new hang tag arrives.

To apply and learn more, visit AlbertaMetis.com/Parks-Pass.

Forests are essential to life across the Métis Homeland.

On International Day of Forests, we recognize the importance of fostering healthy forest ecosystems, which sustain wildlife, store carbon, filter water, and support biodiversity across the Métis Homeland.

Forests provide food, medicine, materials, and economic opportunity for Métis communities. They are central to land-based knowledge systems that guide responsible stewardship.

Sustainable forestry and meaningful Indigenous involvement in land management are essential to ensuring forests remain healthy for future generations. Co-development and co-management are not optional. They are fundamental to advancing Métis rights and protecting the land.

On this International Day of the Forest, we encourage you to take some time to connect to the forest. Spending time connecting to the forest is not only a part of Métis culture but is shared by other cultures as well like the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing”). Forests are a place where all life is connected and feeling a part of that connection has proven health benefits including mental health and mood improvement; lowering stress; and potential boosts in immunity. Take some time to sit amongst the trees today instead of just “touching grass”.

It is with deep sadness that the Otipemisiwak Metis Government acknowledges the passing of Marilyn Lizee. Marilyn was deeply committed to the Nation and dedicated many years of service to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
