June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and reflect on the histories, cultures, experiences, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Mรฉtis Peoples, including their impact on sport and the game of hockey. โ
โ
It starts with curiosity, listening, and taking time to understand stories and perspectives that may be different from our own. โ
โ
Every conversation we have, story we hear, and new perspective we encounter helps us better understand the people and communities that are part of our game. โ
โ
This month, we encourage everyone to take one small step toward learning more. โ
โ
Try reading a book, asking a question, watching a film, or following a new account. Every action matters. โ
โ
๐ŸŽฌ We recommend watching Indian Horse as a great place to start. โ
โ
Based on the novel by Richard Wagamese, Indian Horse tells a powerful story about hockey, resilience, identity, and the lasting impacts of residential schools. โ
โ
Learning starts with one step. โ
