Another Wonderful Parkvale Annual Picnic!

Well, that wraps up another Parkvale Community Association Annual Picnic!

As always, it’s difficult to find a date that works for everyone, but for those who were able to attend, the day turned out beautifully. The children had a fantastic time enjoying the games, with the bouncy castle once again proving to be the biggest attraction. There was an abundance of delicious food, from burgers and hot dogs to a wonderful variety of potluck dishes generously shared by our neighbours.

Guests found comfortable places to gather throughout the grounds—inside the hall, beneath the tents, and even on the grass alongside the building—where they relaxed, visited with friends, and enjoyed the music. It was another great reminder of what makes Parkvale such a special community.

Events like this don’t happen without a great deal of planning and many helping hands. On behalf of the Parkvale Community Association, we extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make the day a success.

A special thank you goes to our President, Len Carlson, for arranging the bouncy castle and tents. Thank you to Bob Coffey for ensuring the signage was in place and for picking up and setting up the tents generously provided by Family Services of Central Alberta.

Thank you to Dawna Morey for preparing the newsletter and posters and for coordinating the insurance and permits. Thank you to Helen Craig for organizing the games and purchasing supplies from Costco. Thank you to Noreen Onofryszyn for working with our wonderful sponsors at Co-op and for shopping for the food. JoJo Courtice, thanks for being on hand to sell memberships.

A very special thank you goes to Rachel Beltran, whose creativity and enthusiasm added so much to the day. Rachel brought games, created passports and medals for the children, and went above and beyond by helping set everything up and ensuring everything was taken down and ready for the next hall renters. We would also like to recognize her husband for his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.

We have wonderful neighbours down in Parkvale and surrounding downtown. It’s always great to see the support back and forth🤗

Saying thank you and actually meaning it, in a way that lands, is harder than it looks on here. But talking about the people helping keep the Red Deer Heritage Day Hootenanny free for our community? Easy peasy.

Pivotal LLP are next level nerdy (sorry, not sorry) about making our numbers make sense and they've been doing this for us for years.

Servus Credit Union has been supporting our community events and public programs for longer than we can remember, a testament to their commitment to serving our region beyond their own walls.

Melcor is not only working to create more housing for us in Bower Woods but they're almost always down to support what's going on around here, literal community builders.

DDC, who despite maybe (definitely) not loving the social media realm, are top tier experts in keeping our building controls within an ultra specific range so that our collections can be here for everyone, forever.

The Briault family, are some of the easiest folks around to like to work with - their contracting company has been a big part of keeping our facility MAGnificent.

SysGen Solutions Group patiently troubleshoots technology in a place that existed well before that was ever a thing.

And last, but definitely not least, our neighbourhood and all of the people who live in it! Parkvale Community Association puts up with us day in and day out and on Heritage Day, they embrace the loud but lovely music and help us create a great space for our performers.

They see the value in what we do. We see the value in what they do. That's what community looks like 💛

What makes Greater Downtown a place people want to visit, gather and stay?

The City of Red Deer is hosting the first session in a Greater Downtown engagement series, and we want to hear from businesses, residents, community organizations, property owners and others connected to the downtown.

This first conversation will focus on destination development and the future of Greater Downtown.

The City of Red Deer is hosting a Greater Downtown engagement series to gather feedback that will help inform future governance decisions, priorities, and opportunities for Greater Downtown.

The first session will focus on destination development: What makes Greater Downtown a place people want to visit, gather, and stay.
